A couple days ago I was reading some threads on here about how poor the abs brakes work in snow. I literally could not stop my truck in what was maybe an inch of snow. I'm definitely putting a switch on to control the abs. I recommend other Tacoma owners to test for yourself good luck and be safe.

The VSC / TRAC won't work with ABS off

Upon further reading it appears that older trucks pre 09 may have a less efficient abs than newer trucks. My truck is very basic no vsc or trac just base 4x4. I'll take it to my mechanic and have him check the system and then take it from there.

I drove through quite a bit of snow in the local mountains over the New Year holiday and had no issues stopping?

You should look into it though you don't want to end up like this poor guy. What a way to start the New Year

Pretty sure he french fried when he should have pizza'd. And yes, that is a Mercedes G Wagon.

ABS is not meant for you to stop, it helps you maintain steering control under certain circumstances.

Common sense is the best stopping tool to use when it's snowing out.

I've spent quite a bit of time in the snow with my truck and I've never had any issues with the ABS.

That's weird, you usually don't see people in G-Boxes driving too fast for conditions... :D

I think many people expect these systems to replace winter driving skills/common sense.

If you don't have ABS you will surely die.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
[IMG] On a slight downhill stopping on glare ice at slow to almost stopped speed the brakes will release and the wheels keep turning; the brakes will not lock up and stop the vehicle.
