Can the ECU be programmed to lock all doors when you start driving,
And open when the key is pulled out of the ignition??

Is there software out there to program through the OBD port?:spy:

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
never heard of such a thing. Doubt it can be done unless you buy an aftermarket module or alarm system.

I bet you could get an auto lock system from a Camry or Avalon and it might work. Because most Toyota stuff is all plug and play

ECU has to be programmed to accept it. An autolock module would have to tie into the ignition or vss wires to program an autolock. I'm pretty sure aftermarket alarms autolock the doors because they are tied into the vss (vehicle speed sensor i think) wire.

Oh ok. Thanks for clarifying that for me. What about the WHOLE system?

Most of these systems actually work off of the transmission, not the ignition.

My wife's 04 4Runner has this option and I hate it. When you take the vehicle out of Park, the doors automatically lock. They automatically unlock when you put it back in Park.

Since this is already in a Toyota product that shares a lot of technology, someone could probably firgure out how to make it work in the Taco.

the Dealer should be able to program it like that. Greysky72's truck does it, and I think she has an 07 4 door....

    Too few to list.
I believe it could be program that way with no alarm. We have a 4runner that locks all doors after a certain speed and unlocks all doors when placed in park. I've owned plenty of cars before (GM and Honda)that can be programmed like that. It would be nice to have the doors automatically lock after a certain speed.

I can't find the thread right now but I know this has been asked before and I don't recall anyone whose done it with the base factory "security system" (i.e. the blinking light). There were even instructions from a Gen 1 I think but they were unsuccessful for the Gen 2's. Damn, where is that thread. It's been something I've been wanting to do myself but all the threads I've found on the subject have been unsuccessful for the Gen 2's. I would love to be proven wrong on this because I want to do it on my truck.

    Edit:
Sorry, I was way off but here's the thread I was thinking of: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...do-you-program-keyless-entry-2007-tacoma.html a good read nonetheless as it pertains to programming.

Many aftermarket systems work off the ignition switch, IOW they lock/unlock when you start/turn off the motor. Simpler to implement than speed or tranny interlock and pretty much the same functionality.

I wouldn't want the doors to lock when I start driving but I would love them to unlock when I park. Or at least when I open the driver door. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee can be programmed from the dashboard.

I also wish all 4 would unlock at the first press of my remote unlock key. I'm not a fan of 4 beeps to get the doors unlocked.

I think you can get all 4 doors to unlock from 1 remote button press from my link in post #11

From the post linked in post #11:

So dealers can reprogram the lock/unlock features. I wonder what they charge for that?

Gen 2's dont have the programming capability, that is why everyone is so unsuccessful. My buddy is a Toyota Tech at a dealer and he said on the new tacoma's it cannot be done stock.
