Thinking about selling my 2008 Tacoma, how much should I be looking for?

It's a 2008 TRD OffRD Access Cab 4x4 with 36,000 miles on it. I was hoping to get $20-22,000 for it but i've had 2 offers from dealers for $15k and $16,500 for it and thought that was a little low considering the low mileage on the truck. I know dealers are gonna lowball but i thought that was pretty low.

Am i expecting too much for it?

Is it 4x4 or 2x4? And that is to me a low ball offer. Post some pics of the truck so we can possibly help.

Thats a bit high. My lifted 2011 Access Cab OR with 41k I sold for $21.5 by myself private party. Bluebook I think was 22-23k. I would sell yours for whatever kbb private party value is, Im guessing 18-20k. Dealer will never give you kbb even though they will sell it for more, unless they are getting you on the new car. Good luck, always hated the buying experience. Hopefully your not looking to buy a 2016. lol.

Sounds like a pre runner, RD rear drive

I think $16k-$18k is fair considering its 8 years old regardless of the low mileage.

Lost my job so looking to sell the truck, get some kind of older truck cheap, pay some bills off and get a 14-15' in the next year or 2. But not the 2016, no thanks lol

If it's a 4x4, I would think you would be able to sell it privately for around 20-21k give or take. Trade in at a dealer is always going to be significantly less but I would think maybe 18k would be about right for a trade in offer, i think 15-16k is definitely a low ball.

Your location is USA. Can you be more specific?

Here in New Mexico Tacomas fetch a premium. I sold my 09 4 cyl Access Cab (base model) 4x4 with 100K on the clock for $15K. It sold the day I put the ad up.

A TRD Off Road like yours would easily fetch 20-22K here, and sell quick. That's probably what those dealers would ask, they're lowballing you hoping for some quick n' easy profit.

Again I'm not sure of the area you're in but I would hold out for more coin.

I'm in Iowa, bout 2 1/2 hrs west of Chicago. I've started contacting dealers in Chicago to see what their offers would be, waiting for one but the other one was $17,500 so it's going up a little bit.

If you can deal with the scammers and tire kickers, get it detailed, put it on Craigslist a couple thousand above your rock-bottom price, and sell it privately. It's worth the extra effort. Don't let a dealer take money out of your pocket for a quick sale. Even if you have to live off a credit card for a couple of weeks you'll come out ahead selling privately.

It will probably sell pretty quick.

Dealers are like the dip shit from craigslist, they will low ball the hell out of you. If you are looking for the most money you need to post it for sale with a $23k OBO tag in it and sit on it for a month. If you are hurting for money, figue out your lowest dollar and wait til someone offers it or more and take it.

This, when I bailed out of my 2014 Sierra I got some really fucking low offers from dealers like I wanted to punch them in the face at the time kind of insulting offers, I just shopped everywhere within 100miles and waited, finally got a decent trade in offer from a dealer 4 hours away in PA, I drove, made me happy, I left good review for them and left bad reviews for all the dealers in Jersey that wasted my time and lied to me over and over again.

I'm gonna check the dealers about 100-150 miles around me and go from there. If i still get low offers I'll just sell it myself. Thanks for all the replies.

$22k sounds about right with your miles.

    High mileage ones fetch $18k

    I can agree with $20 - $22 K.
I disagree with ever using the phrase OBO.
Stay firm, judge the situation as it progresses.
Use of OBO is a disadvantage that is hard to overcome.
Reality= I have it, you don't. You want it, this is the price I want.

This is a real serious question, what kind of skillset do you possess? Good with working with your hands, friendly etc.. Perhaps you can use the truck to start a gig, hauling stuff, moving trailers for people, dump pickup, mowing lawns.

Losing a job sucks (I've been there before and had to think fast) but if you could use this low mileage truck to bring in some extra cash on the side, that would be my first start. You could sell this, and buy a cheap get around truck, but the risk something expensive may fail is higher going this route.
