My 4 hi works perfectly but when I switch to 4 lo the light goes solid and you can hear the transfer but I have no power to any wheels. I can let the clutch out in gear and it's like neutral. Any thoughts?

It's not working right. It's off to the dealer (or mechanic) you go. A solid light means it's engaged, you obviously aren't. It may just be a sensor out of adjustment. Or something serious inside the transfer.
When I engage mine in lo I coast backwards in neutral, turn the switch, then shift to drive. Sometimes it takes a couple attemps (I don't use it very often).
    Oh, and Welcome to TW!

I see a lot of post about actuators going bad but they all say the 4lo light just flashes. My light will turn solid and the drive shaft is still locked just no power. Could it still be the actuator or even just the position switch on the actuator

Take it in, something isn't right there, I've heard of the actuator going in the same manner as you have, on here. That said I have never heard of 4lo resulting in no power whatsoever being sent to the wheels, even with a stuck actuator.

Is it your DD? or can you park it in the garage for a few days and check the fork movement out?

The transfer case has a neutral position, between 4hi and 4lo. Normally, the actuator passes over neutral, but if the actuator hangs up because the contacts are corroded it won't go in. If you are mechanically minded, take the black plastic cover off the Tcase actuator and look at the contacts and traces. If you aren't, go to the dealership. It's hard to find a private mechanic smart enough to work on our trucks. Even the dealership is a crap shoot.

If the actuator on the transfer case is found to be working OK, then a mechanical failure within the transfer case is also a possibility. How did this issue begin? Or is the truck new to you?

Yeah anyone around me is nearly lost when it comes to our trucks. I've had her for a while never had any problems I was on a trail and went to put in 4 lo and just nothing happened. No matter what I do I can't get it to grab. But I appreciate the pointers I'll definitely check the contacts before I take it anywhere

Hi guys, New to this forum and potentially to the Tacoma world. I took an 06 double cab for a test drive today and it had this exact problem. Just wondering if the issue was ever resolved. The truck is a good deal but don't want to have to spend a lot of money on a transfer case if I don't have to. Thx

Hi guys, So I purchased the truck and used this issue to get the price down. Anyway I took it to the dealership the other day to have them take a look. The said "mechanical failure" and quoted me a new transfer case. Forks were moving fine, no filings were found. So just wanted to get another opinion as the whether or not I need a transfer case or not. I rarely use 4lo but would still like to have it working
