I used the free toyota care oil changes and then started using Mobil 1 with the OEM filter.

Tip: Buy a case of filters at wholesale. Just ask the parts guy, he'll give it to you at wholesale.

I used the dealer to change the oil, but I brought my own Moble 1 for them to use. $28 at Walmart vs the $66 that the dealer was going to charge me.

I used the free oil changes twice. After going round and round with them over my vibrations, I decided I would never let them touch my truck again. While changing my own oil at 30k, I found that they didn't bother to put a crush washer on the drain plug. I will continue to perform my own maintenance. I also stick with conventional because that's what is recommended.

I'm not sure where you read that but I'm pretty positive that Toyota recommends 0w20 full synthetic

I have the V6. 5w-30 is what's stated in the owners manual. The 2.7 gets the synth. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

live 45 minutes away, waste of my time for a free oil change. I bought 6 oil filters when i bought the truck, they gave me a funny look and ask why, told them i don't trust no one to do my oil changes

fwiw...i used to do my own oil changes on my silverado. then it started having cam/lifter issues (known issue by chevy). because i changed my own oil, chevy would not honor the warranty. may want to check with toyota if that is their policy. i say let the dealer change.

You're correct, I caught them putting 0-20 in my v6 and they said it's okay. I'm probably just going to bring them my own oil from now on since it's more expensive to use their 5w-30 but I also use synthetic.

That's bullshit, and changing your own oil has no bearing on your warranty, you could file a suit if you really wanted to. They can't deny warranty work based on that, unless it specifically says that under the warranty info, but I highly doubt that.

There is a TSB saying 5W20 is ok with the V6. 5W20 oil seems to make my engine run quieter and better MPG than using 5W30.
