The only time mine flex's is when I get a strong gust against the scoop.

You guys may think I'm crazy but I do know what the hell I'm talking about. :)

I think the flutter you see is not created by the scoop "catching" the wind- but by the low pressure and the pressure gradient delta caused by the gust.

The reason a plane flies is because the air moving over the top of the wing is moving faster than the air under the wing and is therefore lower pressure- more or less sucking the wing into the air.

Same deal with a hood- which explains why both your scooped hood and tigers non-scooped hood both shimmy a bit....it also dovetails nicely with the research and testing chris has done...

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
The hood flexing is also due to air coming in through the grill man. creates a low pressure vacuum.

I made the cover. I have a lot of people ask me to make them for them. I finally broke down and had some laser cut. If you have an interest, send me a PM.

You can disagree, but I would prefer if you could back it up as well.....

And this is the correct answer! Well done, Brunes!

That right there is just plain effin' funny!

Now, about the scoop......don't even worry about it. It has been shown that you'd have to be going well over 100MPH, with the scoop in the right place, before you would achieve enough 'pressure' to see any performance gain from it and even those wouldn't be worth the trouble. Get a supercharger if you want pressurized air on your Taco.

I'm going to agree with the air flow under the hood.

But That IS NOT the point. The point is you have a flat surface (the hood) and there's been a "cup" (the scoop) placed right in the middle of the hood.

The scoop is going to catch a lot of wind on it's own. Correct?

I wish there was a video of the Taco in a wind tunnel.

No....because air being "caught" causes a stagnation point which in turn implies a high pressure area. (The leading edge of a wing has a stagnation point-relative high pressure, relative low velocity) That would push the hood down, not pick it up.

The turbulent flow over the hood is not interrupted significantly by the scoop, because it's already turbulent...Air flow attaches to the hood again up near the windshield. If it were larger or in a different spot...It might...but in it's current configuration it has little to no affect on the air flow characteristics of the hood...The dominant force on that part of the hood is the low pressure suction.

From another thread just like this one:
