    Hello,

    I just purchased a 2015 Non-Nav/Non-Entune System Tacoma.

I was interested in the NAV upgrade. Is this possible?

It has a touch screen bluetooth and all the other goodies.

    Thanks.

    If its not, why not?

I will be honest with you, the stock toyota head unit is very disappointing, I have the JBL, NAV, entune everything headunit and am STILL considering replacing it - It is not upgradable, it'd have to be replaced - and because there is no integration with the truck in terms of trip computer or other stuff, I'd replace it with an aftermarket setup if I were you.

Yah. A "nav upgrade" would be accomplished by pulling out your Entune basic unit and replacing it with another unit that's GPS/nav-capable. Or just get an external GPS unit that provides nav separate from vehicle audio.

If you consider complete replacement an upgrade, then the answer to your original question is "yes".

If by "upgrade" you mean adding to or modifying existing unit to gain functionality, then the answers are "no" and "because it would require complete replacement".

I've seen several threads on here about swapping head units, I don't have any links handy as I haven't paid close attention to them. Search them out, and I'm sure they'll address "plug and play".

If you're talking about the head unit swap for a Nav/Entune unit, yes, it's a plug and play replacement. You cannot just add something to your head unit to gain navigation functionality, though. If you swap out the head unit for a Nav/Entune unit, the one thing you might need to do is add a gps antenna. If you're purchasing from FLTrucks, he supplies it, and you'll need it if your truck doesn't have the sharkfin antenna on the roof.

Here's a VERY LONG thread about swapping head units for Nav. It contains all the information you're looking for.

As stated, yes it's doable. Swap out HU. I have the JBL Entune with nav. I tried to use the nav, but it sucks. It takes way too long to input info and the vehicle has to be in Park. After a month of fiddling with it, I gave up and went back to using my iPhone. I can use Siri to input on the fly. If you are considering getting it, spend some time with it first. As I previously posted elsewhere, once Apple CarPlay improves, I am pulling the JBL unit out.

    Precisely.

I am looking to replace the stock touch screen non nav/entune with an entune/nav and thats all.. no wiring, just plug and play.

Yes i do have the sharkfin antenna.
How do i know if my vehicle is GPS ready.

I have seen that long thread.. but im curious if this is true for a 2015 Head Unit as opposed to a 2014 Entune System.

I kinda want to know the difference and I am new to all this.

2014 and 2015 head units are essentially the same, except they added a clock to the 2015 screen. If you have the sharkfin for XM, then it has the gps antenna in it, so it should be a straight plug and play swap.

I would swap you if you decide to change yours and its a 2015.

Man I could of sworn the guy at Toyota said it was a lot of work to go from non nav screen to nav screen..
