Well I got the pleasure of popping a deer for the 1st time in the truck. I was headed to work this morning running 55 about 10 car lengths behind a car and the deer shot between us. Not too bad of damage I guess, I taped up the flair to drive home and it got the inner fender, outer fender, headlight, fascia, and some supports. Doesn't look like it got the grill or hood. Just get to wait for the adjuster and make an appointment for the body shop. I talked to the guy driving in front of me at work and he said he never saw the deer. I can't believe I drove for over 35 years and never hit a deer then I hit 3 in the last 2 years.

No time to do anything but think my that's a nice big doe. Then say to myself "man that sounded like a nice solid hit".

Yeah , I hear that , I was kidding , that was actually advice given in another deer strike thread , lol

Both times I've hit them and most close calls I've had no chance to do anything

they make deer whistles. they are rumored to work. I would probably give it a try after the 2nd hit lol

Yikes! I've had some close calls out here in Colorado. Deer, coyotes, raccoons, a goat once. Fortunately I had enough time to maneuver around. I hear you when you say you have little time to react. Gonna take that through insurance?

I read those too, Same here all 3 have run out with no time to do anything. If you can spot them far enough away those tips can work. But then all roads would have to be nice and straight with wide mowed shoulders, not the kind I like to drive.

They told me at work I must have deer magnets instead of whistles.

    Do dents and scratches count?
Had one run into the side of my truck one day..... Dents in the front fender and fur stuck in the rear bumper. 20 years of driving and that's the only time. My father has creamed a few on his early morning commute though.

I ran a deer over, yes ran it over, during my 2nd test drive before I bought my truck. Dam thing ran out, tried to turn back, and slipped on the pavement right under the passenger side. Only damage to the truck... Mud flap got ripped off!

Sorry for the run of bad luck OP.

I once hit a deer in a 4Runner, and got out to check the damage which was minimal...busted turn signal, dented bumper and fender. Got back in and drove off. About ten miles down the road someone pulls up next to me and signals to put the window down. Apparently I still had the deer in tow, as his leg got caught up under the truck. What a bloody mess that night became.

Yea the Kansas City area/Overland Park are chuck full of deer. We need to shoot some more of those things and give them to folks who could use a good meal. We're overrun with deer. Sorry about your accident

Its time for a new front bumper! that's what I did when I hit mine. depending on the bumper you might have to pay a bit but you wont have that kind of damage again.

    Stock for now...
Yeah, that's a pretty good clip for sure . I had to put a new bumper cover on my old Corolla a couple years ago thanks to Bambi - made it all the way through the 10+ herd sideways (no anti-locks) and just barely clipped the last doe's hind hoof - popped a nice hole in the cover since it was -12*F that morning . Hit many with my old Samurai and it's home-built bull bar - shredded those pretty bad and finally had one dent the hood a little with his big-azzed head/rack . Rode around for 2 days trying to get rid of the smell , found out one whole hindquarter was jammed in the 5th arm traction bar on the rear axle - yuk .
Worst hit I ever had - big buck early am hit on the way to work , nailed him with a 3-ton '78 Chrysler New Yorker - @70mph . Punted his butt over 100' ahead of us , about 35' off the ground and through a large tree - leaving part of his carcass hanging from said tree . Cracked the car's nose piece pretty good but that was it ...he was dead before he left the car .
