I was shocked to find that my door locks do not auto lock once moving. Is there any way on the 2014 TRD OR auto lock?

My 2011 locks once I turn on the ignition (but only if the door closes). I believe if you have the newer models, there is an option on that fancy touchscreen to auto lock once shifted into drive (wife's rav4 with entune does).

Unfortunately, no. There is no auto lock capability with the factory power locks (at least on the 2014 like I have). The only programmable option is "beep" tone on or off.

there's nothing in the menu buttons on the touchscreen? wish toyota would make some of these things standard between vehicles.

If ya'll find a solution to this PM me...

I know the bully dog tuner has an option to auto lock doors... but its like 800 bucks.

I hate the fact the doors don't lock.

I have tried to locate in ENTUNE and have not located a way to make the doors auto lock once moving.

Seems like there should be an easy way to have a relay momentarily activate all the door locks when the truck is put into drive (for automatics)

Has anyone done this yet? If not I might work on this when I get some time to play around with it and if the sun decides to come back out for more than a couple hours. :rain:

Why would you want your doors to lock with you in the car? I know it makes you feel safer, but if homie wants in and you don't have a way to defend yourself, homie is getting in. Windows are fragile...

It sucks yes. My wife's car does as soon as you put it in gear. I've just got into the habit of locking them when I get in my truck.

I know there are plenty of women out there that would not want someone to be able to just open an unlocked door to get into the vehicle while they are at a traffic light. For this reason alone it makes sense to have the doors automatically lock.

I've been looking at the electrical schematics for the 2013. It looks like I can tap into the wires that illuminate the "P, N, D, R...." indicators on the instrument cluster. I can also tie these to a relay which will momentarily energize the wires for the door lock switch when the shifter is put into drive. This will effectively lock all the doors.

I have had passengers in the back seat get "locked in" because I locked the doors. To prevent this, I can also have a relay momentarily activate the wires to unlock the doors when the shifter is put into park.

This seems simple enough. I'll just have to identify the locations of the plugs/wires and devise a simple way to connect all this up. Anyone interested in the outcome?

They would prefer if someone elbow's the glass and opens the door? My argument is that it is a false sense of security. I don't want to be trapped in my taco in case of accident. There is a much higher chance of that than a car jacking...even in LA.

Did you know there is a button on the driver's door panel and if you push it once, all four doors lock simultaneously?

Well ok then, don't lock your doors.

I was just trying to help some people that want this feature. :)

Oh, by the way... if you have young kids and they are in the back of your truck and decide to open a door that you forgot to lock and fall out while you're going 60 mph in heavy traffic on a 6 lane highway, don't blame me.

Not wishing this on anyone, just saying that it could potentially happen. :)

A real world example of one of the bad things that could potentially occur.

    Shocking? perhaps.

    Possible? yes.

    Preventable? most definitely.

I don't lock my doors, ever. My taco and I have been to more than a dozen countries around this fine planet and I have never had an issue.

#1 Be prepared to defend yourself and your property.

#2 If you have to stay somewhere shady don't leave your vehicle unattended. If that means you sleep in it, you sleep in it.

#3 Don't leave anything in your taco worth stealing, or anything that looks like it's worth stealing.

#4 Do not under any circumstances let anyone else drive your vehicle. Cops, valets, semi official looking border guards, or strippers covered in glitter. Trust me on this one.

If you follow these rules you, and more importantly your truck will be just fine, even in third world shitholes (like california) where grown men will gladly trade their little sister for a bottle of vodka and stealing your taco will feed their family for a year.
