I didn't realize there was a recall on the Tacoma beds, I thought that was only for the Tundra's? Luckily the impact never touched the cab, so there is no damage whatsoever there, which surprised me because there is mayb2 2" of clearance between the 2. All it did to the tractor was punch a hole in the wire mesh grill, again lucky for me it didn't get the radiator or even the debris screen directly behind the grill!

If you do attempt to repair or otherwise keep it, drill some holes at each end of the crack to stop it from spreading.

They generally don't use rebar in curbs

As I see it you have two real choices and a poor stepchild of a third choice:

    1. DIY fiberglass repair, which I mentioned above and which you say you've done in the past. Properly done, this will be hella strong and won't have any stength issues, but will leave a big cosmetic blemish.

    2. Follow through with replacing the entire bed. If I was taking that path - I'd probably get the insurance company involved as it'll run to well over 2000 bucks between parts and labor.

    3. You could try and get a boatyard to do the repair for you since they're expert at glass repair. They could repair the glass and match the texture so you'd never see it. But boatyards are notorious for working on their own schedule and you might be without your truck for a month or more while waiting for them to perform the repair. And I'm not convinced you'd save any coin at all vs. option 2.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
i had a crack in the front corner of my bed when i bought it. i did the fiberglass matting/resin fix and then got some raptorliner and did the whole bed (and also my rockers and flares) to cover up the ugly tan piece in my bed. but the glass eventually let go. i assume its because it was in the corner and couldnt handle the flexing for the 2 sides. i would think since this is the middle of one piece if should hold just fine. this pic was about a week after application [IMG]
this is just over a year later
    [IMG]
it actually has stayed on the composite a little better than the metal on the top rail of the bed (i took the plastic caps out and sprayed those too)

My gang box cracked my bed after impact with another vehicle (less than 40mph) visiting CA from N. E. Florida for work... I wanted to see the Pacific Ocean so I went to Long Beach, that's when a crazy CA driver pulled out of a side street (almost T-bone me) then got in front of me while approaching a cross walk that had a green traffic light. Meanwhile, I was thinking this guy is just slowing down...when he locked down his brakes for some pedestrians still on the sidewalk! Of course I slammed into him! I wondered why it felt like a double impact. I didn't notice the damage until almost a month later...not much can be done to repair it in my opinion. I replaced the front bumper, hardware and all... free parts off the "pay it forward" forum during my California adventure!

I used to work with my dad, whos a civil engineer... I swear I saw rebar in all the curbs they were about to pour. Maybe because the driveways were so close? Hmm... now Ill have to ask.

Use your insurance. That is why you have it. Homeowners may even cover it, if not file it on your auto policy,

Could be an Ontario / Municipality thing too. Some are much crazier than others.

I recently had a transmission slide in my bed after it some how undid it's strap and put a small crack in the front of my bed while driving. I read about some fiber glass, maybe some stuff with some horse hair or whatever will help. I really like the idea of making up a nice metal plate to rivet or bolt to the front part of the bed. I'll let you guys know what I end up doing.

i've welded composite material before. basically it looks like a soldering gun with a different tip and get hotter. you place steel screen material on it and melt it into the composite material to reinforce it than if you have any composite material laying around you melt that
onto the top to smooth it out.
