Just pulling back into my driveway at under 2 mph. The ABS kicks in because of the inch of ice on the driveway surface. Bounced my wife's care about five feet ahead once I got the truck to stop.
That sucked! Not much damage other than the plate cover and a pressure clip (that I have no idea where it came from).
I know what mod I am doing once it warms up.

I've said it before, if I lived where it snowed that ABS would be gone .

    Yeah. I understand why.
Got this truck in April 2014. Learning a lot about it this winter.

Yeah..., happened to me too. My taco came to a crawl before stopping but there were ice on the road so the ABS kicked in and made it impossible to stop. In fact it actually seemed like it carried momentum of the truck forward further as the wheels were spinning. Those who wear dentures would probably find their dentures on the floor under those circumstances.

The ice and a lack of traction is what caused the problem.

    4x4 or prerunner?

this is likely the problem, dont matter what your abs is doing, if your on ice, your fucked unless you got proper studs. / chains

I run studs and still have problems even when I slow down enough. ABS is too sensitive.

i keep thinking its the people that have the standard vacuum boosted master cylinder with seperate ABS unit that have ABS issues.

Even with my stock rugged fails on ice / snow i never had a problem with ABS, but i have the TRD OR 4x4 that has the electric boosted master cylinder that in itself independently controls brake pressure to each wheel.

How many people do I hear saying "It's not your brakes". I live in Newfoundland, Canada. We average over 110 inches of snow annually. So yeah, I think I'm qualified to comment on this. However I do not need to go into heavy analysis about all this. My wife's Honda Civic and my Mitsubishi Outlander - both with ABS - both stop much better than my Tacoma. The Tacoma ABS are way to sensitive. It's the worst vehicle I've ever owned in that regard. I find myself driving much more carefully downhill at intersections that I would in either of the other vehicles. No comparison. No studs on either vehicle at the moment, but winter tires on all.

another person with vacuum master cylinder and seperate abs unit.

it would be interesting to see a poll created with 4 simple options.

    1. I have a TRD Off road 4x4 w/ atrac and HAVE HAD ABS ISSUES
    2. I have a TRD Off road 4x4 w/ atrac and DO NOT ABS ISSUES
    3. Any other 6 lug tacoma and I HAVE abs issues
    4. any other 6 lug tacoma and I DO NOT have abs issues

Id be willing to bet you see most votes on 2 and 3.

Yes. This is my third Tacoma. Never been a problem. Other cars with ABS, never a problem.
The ABS is leaving the truck as soon as I can be pointed in the right direction cause I am too lazy to do a search.

Maybe I am incorrect about what it was that kicked in with the truck.
    Could someone maybe clarify.
Was it the ABS or the VSC?
Or, are they really the same thing?
    Thanks

I live in a northern area and hate my ABS. Like others have said, the ABS is way too sensitive and my Tacoma is the worst stopping vehicle on snow/ice once the ABS goes off. 2010 sr5 4x4.
