Looking for recommendations on a winch for the HWMS.

I'll likely get a Warn unless I get some very persuasive info on another brand.

I'm considering three. The M8000-s. Cheap and light. Likely all I'll ever need for my intended uses. Would likely get the wireless remote accessory.

The 9.0Rc. It's even lighter, and smaller for the cramped space of the HWMS and has an additional 1000 lbs. of capacity. It's pricey though and only comes w/ 50 ft. of line. Would need to get and extra length of line, not a bad thing, and the wireless remote accessory making it a pretty expensive option.

And lastly the Zeon 10-S. It has built in wireless remote that includes clutch, latest Warn tech and looks. Has 10,000 lb. capacity. No additional accessories needed.

I'm looking for some feed back on general winch use and especially HWMS winch use due to the restrictive space.

I've used a winch many times when I rock crawled w/ my TJ on 37s. It was an Warn 9500 and sold with the Jeep. It served me well and for more than just an extraction. I broke my steering box off in Moab on Poison Spider. I used the winch line to wrap the steering box and tightened it to hold it in place. Worked amazing well.

My build is an adventure build. I only need a winch for those times I end up in a bad spot or emergency extraction. I'm NOT looking to go rock crawling with copious amounts of use of a winch. A just in case if you will. I'd prefer to keep it as light as possible but that's not paramount or a deal breaker for the right winch. I'm also not against spending the money on what I want and or need but wouldn't mind saving some money either. IOW, price isn't the highest priority but a consideration.

Warn is an excellent brand. I don't know the Warn price but I looked at and like the Smittybuilt 9500 (might be 9400) with synthetic line for about $450.

Im running the Zeon 10-S on mine, and I love it so far. Used it a couple times on my last trip out. It seemed to spool quickly and did exactly what I needed. I have my servo pack installed with the short length relocation kit. I replaced the fairlead with a Factor 55 one and also running a Flatlink.

You have the Zeon 10-S Platinum pictured, all I know is its brand new. Don't know if you can get that one yet.

Also what does HWMS stand for, not familiar with that acronym?

    Hey OP,
I'm in the same boat as summer approaches I'm excited to go camping/fishing this summer with my new wife.

What did you end up going with? Pics of the install?

I ended up emailing Brian at Undercover and they recommended the Warn M8000-s, which was #1 on my list due to price and reputation. I'm in the middle of install. It's all mounted and I'm getting ready for the bumper cutting/fitting and re-install. I'd post some pics but I'm having issues w/ the new Apple Photos app allowing me to move pictures to my Photobucket account.

I was able to mount the control box to the winch and get it to fit. Barely. I'm hoping that the bumper will fit over it. It should, but you don't know until it works.

Also, I have the supercharger. The pump for the intercooler coolant is in the way of where the winch goes. I moved the pump over to the driver's side about 11".

Honestly, it's been a pain in my ass to do. But, pretty much EVERYTHING like this turns into a pain in the ass to install and I'm used to it. Most of that is my fault. I go slow, real slow. I'm a bit OCD and I have to put it on, fit it, take it off, fit it, put it on, fit it, etc, etc, etc.

I do have pics and as soon as I can figure out this new Photos app (Apple replaced the iPhotos app and I'm a beta tester. Not available for public release yet and obviously some issues) I'll get them up.

    Read that.

Not sure how Warn won when it failed under tremendous load while two others did not. I would say reputation put it over the top but unfortunately I think it had more to do with a big, long time advertiser vs. lower advertising budgets. I would hazard a guess that Warn's advertising budget trumps all the others combined. By a lot.

    Still bought the Warn. ;)
