So my pops is looking for a new car, anyone know if Toyota dealers are willing to price down 2nd gen trucks because of the new 3rd gen announcement. The old man is considering a Jeek wrangler Sahara, but i gotta convice him otherwise.

Probably not until they hit the lot. I was at my local dealer the other day everything was still at regular price.

Let him test drive both and go from there. Depending on how he uses it, he might like the Jeep better.

They might come off the MSRP $4k-ish.. depends on where you are and how many 2nd and 3rd gens are on the lot.

I doubt Toyota will discount the Tacoma since it's still one of the only midsize trucks in the U.S. market. Now if Ford brought the Global Ranger to the U.S. than Toyota would definitely be forced to fight back for sales but they really don't have any competition in sales.

I wouldn't expect any discounts until the 3rd gens hit the lot , even when that happens don't expect much of a discount. If I was toyota I'd milk all the money I can with 2nd gens

They will not discount them until they have 2016 models on the lot and start having a hard time selling the 2015.
They will also not tell prospective buyers that there is a new model coming out soon unless you specifically ask. We all know about the 2016 3rd gen because we are into it, but I bet the majority of the people out there have no clue - they just go to the dealer and buy what is on the lot. My boss bought an Acura SUV a month before the new totally redesigned one came out. He didn't ask and they did not volunteer to share the news that there will be a nicer one in a month. He was not happy, but it was his fault for not checking. Many people do this.

FYI, I'm working on purchasing a 2015 right now and actually the MSRP for builds after 1/31 is going up by $200 according to the dealer.

Beyond that, like everyone else I expect no deals until 2016 hits the lots. And actually, hard to say if there will be particularly great deals. If the 2016 is in heavy demand at introduction it might sell at close to MSRP while the 2015 will just sell close to invoice like it always does. In other words, rather than the 2015 being discounted the 2016 will just be effectively marked up during introduction.

It certainly couldn't hurt to wait to see if the discount comes along *unless* you are looking for something specific. For instance, if you want a relatively bare bones vehicle or something without expensive useless options like navigation on it you may find that by the time 2016s show up and you can get a "deal" on a 2015 that the only things left on the lot are more expensive 2015 models that when "discounted" aren't any cheaper than what you could have bought now in a configuration you want.

Hmmm... That seemed like a very long post to say "I don't really know and it depends" :)

Same thing happened to me. I bought my 11 and then a few months later they dropped the redesigned front end on the 12's. O well got a great deal on my 11 though haha.

Probably going to offer better financing rates on the 2nd gens and maybe a grand cash back just like any year-end model. People are still fighting to buy the 2nd gens. Ordering and waiting 2 or 3 months for the truck they want. Why would Toyota offer discounts?

You know my pops mentioned he was looking for a 0.0% financing deal. Is that a thing in the automotive industry?

Yes, it's available. I see it more with the domestics, but Toyota has had it before. Typically only shorter term like 2 or 3 year financing, then 0.9% for 4 years and 1.9% for 5 years, for example.

2nd gens will never be discounted. 3rd gens will cost more, so the buyer will think 2nd gens are discounted.

    Dealers are whores.

    Discounts are apparently possible.

TrueCar was $3K off on IN STOCK vehicles. Of course, nothing in stock fits my needs. Was able to negotiate $2K off on a pre-ordered vehicle. Now I'm just waiting.

That and not everyone wants the 1st edition of a new model. What kind of problems will the 2016 have? Might take a year or so for all of that to surface.

I think people mean discounts more than that. These trucks sell close to "invoice" all the time if you just use TrueCar, Costco or shop around through the fleet/internet sales departments in your area. No one pays MSRP or close to it, unless it is something silly like a TRD Pro in limited production and high demand. You should assume a "normal" price of $2K to $3K below MSRP.

So I think the question really was will the 2015 get discounted below "invoice" as the 2016s come out (remember, "invoice" really isn't what the dealer pays). Certainly I think everyone expects the 2016 to sell for more than the 2015 if both are on the lot. The question is will the 2015 sell for less than it does now, or will the 2016 just be even more expensive than that at first.
