If it helps, it definitely has as tilt/telescoping steering wheel, I don't believe they made a second gen with out a tilt wheel.

As far as the frame, there is definitely alot of surface rust but nothing that looks too alarming. The real place to check is just inside the frame rail on the driver's side right next the to catalytic converter.

If you check the VIN on the Toyota Owner's website, it might even be eligible for a frame replacement if the rust is bad enough.

Overall it looks like a pretty clean truck, I would say 13-14k isn't too bad of a price for it.

It's very possible that I just missed it. That is good to know.

Hopefully the dealer calls me back by the end of the day. If not, I'll call another one.

I did the job with my best friend who happens to be a mechanic. But i did get a quote from toyota for just over $3000, not including other parts they might need to replace. I ended up needing a new exhaust manifold and water pump, which at the dealer probably would have added another 1000 to the total. Hope that helps.

I think it's probably a bit off to say that the 05-06 have "bad" head gaskets. Toyota made a change that might prevent head gasket issues that had popped up, but doesn't mean it's going to happen. I've heard of 07+ with head gasket issues as well...lot of factors beyond the minor change.

In fact, I believe there's an 05 or 06 on here with 375,000 miles currently without any head gasket problems...and that isn't the only one I'm sure.

I had an 05 and it was a great truck. Squeaky clutch pedal replaced by the dealer at 10K was my only problem. Would've kept it forever if it was a 4x. I think it runs stronger than my 2014 if that helps. Around here 4x tacos are very sought after and fetch a premium.

Mine had the head gasket issue at 123k miles right after I bought it used from a Toyota dealer. They reluctantly fixed it under their 30 day warranty. Otherwise I would have done it myself. I'm positive that's why it was traded. Absolutely spotless otherwise and the service records indicated the owner was in it for the long haul. He bought pretty much the exact same truck except a 2013.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to check the VIN number with Toyota to see service records.

i have a 06, awesome truck. bought it for 14 at dealership with 123,000 now has about 148,000 best truck ive ever owned. Wen i bought the truck the frame was immaculate with only very little rust then 2 winters it rusted like crazy. Mine is eligible for the frame replacement and taking my truck to get a new frame wen the frame comes in. If you can get them down on the price and if the truck is eligible for the frame replacement then snatch that baby up. You wont regret it!

Bah.... went to the dealership today with my buddy who knows way more about vehicles than me. I wanted him to give it a good once over before I took it to someone who could really give it a good once over on a lift. Someone else bought the truck and was pulling out of the parking lot with it when I got there. My buddy asked the salesman what the guy ended up paying for it. The salesman's response, "The guy made out well, he came in with a check for 10 thousand." The buyer got a great deal.

So... I'm still on the lookout for a new vehicle.
