How about getting a Dog Jacket as Well?? It might be more comfortable when laying down / sleeping?

I'll assume your talking about the inverter outlet? The inverter is good for 400 watts engine running they do make 120 volt 300 watt plug in ones.

    How's it work for you?

Have you done the 400 watt anytime mod? If not, you're not getting enough wattage to that heater while in gear/driving. I believe the inverter is limited to 100 watts while in gear/motion. I suspect this is to limit how much power is pulled from vital drive systems while on the go.

i get about 10 to 20 degrees warmer with the road pro heater. would rather use bed outlet than running wires to engine compartment

Yours is currently hard wired to the battery?

The one you have is about max for the inverter/plug. And you'll likely need to do the 400 watt anytime mod for it to run while driving.

I wonder if heating blanket would work with the dog also wearing a sweater or dog coat??

Hey, I got the medium size on this site:

    http://www.moorepet.com/Poly-Pet-Heat-Mat-with-Rheostat-p/kane-polypetheatmatrheo.htm

It's max usage is 72watts which works without any mods while driving (under 100watts). I got it with the rheostat so that I could tune the heat a little bit to make sure it didn't cook any dogs.

I have two dogs, one weighs 70lbs and the other 85lbs. We drive up to the mountains in Colorado and the outside temperature has been as cold as -10F and with this heater the dogs have been warm. Before we got the heating pad, the dogs would get cold with outside temps in the teens.

We have the heater underneath an LLBean XL dog mat. (Note: the manufacturer of the heating pad - Kane - wants you to ONLY use their coverings, so I will pass along that disclaimer here, but we have had no issues after three months of use)

The heater pad and dog mat combo creates an indirect heat as the mat gets warmed (but not hot) and the dogs at least don't get their heat pulled out of their bodies by a cold truck bed while they ride to and from the mountains. (I do have a topper)

One thing I will say is that this mat does not make the bed "feel" warm or hot, but if you were to crawl up on the mat after it's been on for longer than 30 minutes you will feel it working and the dogs love it. This combined with dog coats enables us to take the dogs with us to Leadville and not worry about them getting too cold in the back.

    Hope this helps,
    Matt

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Put them in the backseat perhaps? I have a seat cover in back for this very reason, if it's too cold out, they come inside. Most times they prefer riding in the bed though.
