America's Tires is the same as Discount Tire only on the West Coast.....never had any issues going up one size at America's Tires.....Les Schwab will also upsize without any issues.

Buy tires online - go somewhere and have them mounted. I bought tires for my wife's 4runner and my Tacoma and had them installed at Firestone (both vehicles went up a couple of tire sizes) and I ended up paying less for 2 sets of tires than most places wanted for one set installed.

Why would anyone give business to walmart or costco or sams club?! Find a locally owned shop, and have the tires shipped there from tirerack.com

It has to be liability thing.

A shop once refused to put tires on my car because they didn't match the speed rating that the factory tires had.

I agree if you have a good local shop to do the work. I know in my area mom and pop tire shops are almost gone because of walmart, sams, sears, ntb, ect. It's more convenient to just drop your car off their and do your shopping than to wait at a little shop.

I have a guy down the road in my tiny town who has a small gas station. He does all my tires and oil changes on my wifes car(do my own on my truck). He beats everyone's prices for tires. Plus I drive my vehicle their, then walk home and pick it up later.

Also I can confirm Sam's Club will not put none OEM sized tires on your car. I had a car with 18" rims on it, they had an excellent price on the tire I needed, but would not install them on my car since the car never came with 18" rims.

It is a liability thing...There were some terrible crashes, including church van, resulting from mismatched tires, often a temp rating C vs A or a 4 ply vs 6ly and the big companies came up with policies that limited tire installation to the stated sticker on the drivers door post.

Small shops are more relaxed about the issue.

Privately owned shops are superior to the national chains of stores with their quality of service and take pride in their efforts, as well.

The person who is paid $8.56/hr to change tires is not caring about making sure the wheel weights are properly stuck to the wheel or cleaning and lubing the bead of the tire before install. Not to mention even balancing the thing right

I disagree and agree with you there. Not all small shops are good and not all chain store employees are bad.

I bought and had my 285/75/16 KM2's installed at Sam's Club. Another member here had his 285 KO2's installed at Costco.

I was a little annoyed that I had to convince the guy at Discount Tire last week to sell me 265/705/16's. It took some convincing for sure.

I have been able to Jedi mind trick Walmart 2-3 times to sell me larger than stock for my other ride as well, although buying at Walmart surely means I'm going to hell.

At both places I acted like I was going to walk out and they changed their tune real quick.

wrong, i just bought a 09 DC TRD Sport, day after wal-mart replaced oem crap 265x65x17 with Goodyear wrangler AT/S 265x70x17, even sold them to me for $100 each, this was on 12/19/2014. of course it could have been an off day, didn't even talk about it, asked how much tires were, said they were left over from black Friday and would give me a deal since it was last set so i pulled truck around and they installed while i stocked up on supplies.

Speaking of Plus Sizing. I too want to go from OEM stock DunPops 245 16s to BFG Rugged Trail 265's . Am pretty sure my Discount Tire guy won't argue.

Is it necessary to have speedo re-calibrated? If so is that a big Hi$ deal?

Thanks for all of the input. I would prefer to go with a local tire shop; however, I move every couple of years and a nationally recognized chain (e.g. Costco) will carry the warranty with me when I move, which I have needed from time-to-time. There may be local stores that are part of a larger corporations that will honor any roadside warranty as well, I just may have to look around. Thanks again!

Why go to dealer for tires?

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced to begin with...

Never in over 50 years of buying tires have ever heard about not fitting a +1 for an upgrade...

Every car or truck, never even a mention at purchase or install...
