No reason you can't ask the dealer to replace it and have the cost absorbed as part of the frame swap.

That's what I plan asking. I had absolutely no leaks or issues with it before, and the only reason it was in the shop was because of the frame recall. So I think they should pay to fix it. Can't hurt to at least try.

Actually that seal has TSB so Toyota should have replaced that for you for free while they were swapping frame.

TSB is only for in warranty vehicles. Does not apply in this situation, truck is a 2005.

I would ask to have the delaer cover the labor and you cover the part.

    Kinda a finger pointing situation.

A TSB isn't a recall. It's information to advise techs how to handle high volume complaints w/o having to spend a ton of time on diagnosis.

Sometimes the TSB will instruct that a repair is to be done under warranty, others not.

So it's not an 'only in warranty' issue, it just an issue.

OP, clearly you can now show them where the leak has originated from. It wouldn't hurt to reference the TSB, just to point out that this was a sensitive area from the get-go. As others have said, the R&R of the drive shaft likely nipped the seal. I'd definitely be asking them for a repair on their dime.

Tailshaft seal and the all too famous dealership service lame bs doing nothing and you still have a problem. That is about par. Like wiping off some fluid fixes a leak.........NEVER. Same lame shit I went thru with a rr main leak on the 05. Tried to say it was from oil change. Same thing they took 4 attempts to replace a head gasket that needed replacing and were throwing sealer at the timing cover. ASE certification my ass. That is obvious shit they coulda found after wiping then test driving around the parking lot. Lame fucktard nonsense. It wasn't leaking before the swap, it is now. Wear item or not they should replace it free, it was their shitty frame's fault the issue is an issue right now. I'll be shocked if that is the only thing that is an issue after all that has been done. Check all the bolts on the whole truck, I about lost the harmonic balancer due to asshats leaving the bolt loose. Put the truck thru it's paces, use everything on it and make sure everything is functional.

Dropped it off this morning, and the service advisor, who I have to say, always treats me awesomely, and with respect, said He was going to talk to his manager and I shouldn't have to pay for it, since it wasn't leaking when I brought it in. That's what I like to hear.
I did get a 2015 camry to drive. Man, that thing is nice!

So service advisor just called. the leak isn't minor, like just the output shaft seal. They said it's coming from somewhere on the rear of the tranny housing. Tech recommended replacing the tranny housing. 800 bucks in parts and labor. Service advisor said he talked to toyota and they are willing to split the cost 50/50. I'm fine with that I guess, just not sure why it's leaking now when it wasn't when I took it in. Trying to decide how hard I want to fight having to pay for half of it.

Dude you getting screwed, it is a seal that's why there is TSB for it.
If leak is from housing than they cracked housing while putting together so again you should not be paying them anything. Its Up to you but that seal leaking is common thing Toyota knows that.

yeah, I don't know. I'm not completely retarded when it comes to automotive maintenance, but I'm not mechanic either. I just don't understand why it was fine when I took it in, and now all of a sudden it's not, and I have to foot half the bill to fix it.

That seal leaks on its own, so most likely all they did was handle little rough and that thing started leaking. Unless they really cracked the housing by hitting something, but than you going to have more problems.
In both cases you should not be paying a penny.
I know its hard to demand dealer to do the right thing but its your money they trying to steal. Its no different than some meth addict pulling your wallet on the street with $400 in it.

If it was fine when you brought it in you shouldn't have to pay anything to fix it. Regardless if the part is old or worn out, it wasn't leaking before. If the frame replacement (which wasn't your fault) didn't occur then the leak wouldn't have either. They're on the hook for that bill.

so who do I talk to about that? The service advisor said that he talked to his manager or rep from toyota or someone, and the best they could do was 50/50.

Call Toyotausa, open a file and get the dealer to do it at Toyota's request.

Should I wait until the repair is done? I don't want to open a case or something and have my truck up on a lift and the dealer not give it back or something stupid.
I was thinking I'd pay the bill, then call toyota corporate and get them to reimburse me.
