As I dive into the world of upgrading/modding my truck, I was going to save myself some money and install a security system/remote start....then found out that the trucks "g key" may complicate things.

I have a 2012 TRD sport DCLB. What system do you recommend and what do I need to bypass the g key? Also, are accessories like tilt sensor etc worth it?

I have the same exact vehicle 2012 TRD sport DCLB. My wife bought me the avital remote start package last year and I had it installed by a local shop. Here is the link for the remote start package I have. She also purchased the smart start option which allows you to start/unlock/lock your vehicle with you smart phone, from anywhere in the world as long as you have internet service. I highly recommend this unit.

we have a compustar remote start installed in the warden's 2012. no issues with it. don't even have to wrap the key.

now the new "H" keys are a royal PITA to break. the daughters Rav4 has one and compustar hasn't broken them yet so we had to have her's wrapped to get the remote start to work.

if she would have had a PTS system, it would have been easier and not waste the spare master key to wrap.

This is good info to have. Originally I just wanted the remote start......now I lean more towards it being integrated with a security system. I like the smart start system but the reviews are hit or miss on those systems. It is hard to get a good read on if it is worth it overall (plus paying the annual fee).

I have the avital remote start as well no issues with it at all. I've had them on my last 3 trucks. It's a viper product. Never messed with the smart start tho. Don't feel the need to have to starlit from my phone.

I hadn't heard of the avital........I'm kind of torn on what to do......the smart phone stuff is nice but I don't want to pay the annual fee.
