    the button on the dash lights up but there is no power at the outlet.
    any idea's

    yes. i started the truck.
    i wanted to use the wifes hair dryer to remove the dealers sticker.
    but no luck.
    i guess i will try to find and trace the wirering

    A hairdryer might be to much of a current draw.

    Check the UL sticker listing the voltage & amperage required for what you are using.

    Voltage X Amperage = Wattage required.

    i will try it again with something that draws less amps.

    I can confirm that a hairdryer won't work. In my case it powered on for about 3 secs and then shut off. I tried the same thing when removing the badges on my tailgate.

    Hairdryer would work if its blowing cold air.......(no heat)

    But that certainly won't help you remove stickers. :p

    found the problem.
    removed the four bolts and removed the outlet.
    found that the wire had came unplugged and was laying in the
    inner fender. plugged it back in and added a zip tie so it will
    not happen again.

    plugged in a drill and it worked great!! wish every fix was this simple.

    The bed outlet is 400watts max. You can plug stuff in over and it may work. Not to full capacity, but it will work. Do not use it for long over the max or it will burn out the inverter. Then it truly will be useless. I use if to charge my cordless drill batteries from job to job.
