Press and hold mode to turn off radio. It'll beep off. Press again to turn back on. Works with my 07. No reason it would be different with your '14.

Mine's got a few less buttons though.

Hope it works! Good write up BTW. Excellent documentation with the pictures. +1.

Ah, the good ol days... heh heh

Even I was surprised how many buttons there were. When I ordered these things I'd only ever seen a pic of 2013 models and I assumed they were the same for 2012-2014. When I opened the package I was like "Holy cow!"

Thanks again for the info. Just checked and the mode button, when held does pause playback or silence the radio but doesn't turn it off technically. Still, six of one half dozen of the other.

Also I noticed my backlights work for wheel controls but they are not as bright as, say the hvac controls, also they do not dim with the dimmer wheel. I think this may be normal? Either way, if these are my biggest problems I'm very happy.

On my 07 they don't dim either nor are they as bright as the HVAC.

Good to hear it at least nixes the sound even if it doesn't turn it off. Maybe trying holding various other buttons and see what happens. Except the volume button.

    Don't do that.

    Just don't.

102 for the controls and 26 for the nonOEM spiral cable... Not bad at all... Just for the cruise it'd be worth it

Be careful and do much research before you buy. I'm not sure if regular cabs are prewired. Though if it's not I think you'd only have to run a few wires from the black spiral cable plug to the radio headunit.

But again, I'm not sure about regular cabs.

    Fairly certain they're all prewired.

Awesome write up man! Does this do the cruise as well, or just the radio controls??? I just got a new to me 2014 reg cab and really want to install oem cruise... don't really care that much about the radio controls. Been looking around for a thread on it and yours is the closest thread I have found.
    Any info would help.
    Thanks.

Cruise is not included in this install. Cruise can be installed separately from steering wheel controls.

Thanks OP for this write up. I have to swap out a broken Clockspring, and this is what I needed. One suggestion, you may want to mention the obvious in that the battery should be disconnected for a time prior to any work around the airbag.

Can these be installed in a 2013 as well?

Mine came with steering wheel controls for volume, "Mode," and phone, but no voice commands or anything else. Reason for asking is that I did the 2014 Entune w/Navigation retrofit and I'd love to have voice command capabilities... Plus I love the way these look.

    Thanks,
    Josh

    Hi All. Great write up!

1st post here. I was wondering:

    1. would it work with a 2012 Access cab?
    2. Can these add-on steering wheel controls be made to work with an aftermarket head unit like Kenwood DNX9990HD?
    3. If so, should I buy 2012 steering wheel controls, or the 2014 like in the write up?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Ok not to hijack a thread but does anyone know if there are extra/accessory power wires leading to the passenger side blank controls on a 2011 TRD O/R 6 speed?

I've already got the steering wheel controls (in silver). If I just wanted to swap the surround to black, would I still be dealing with electrical stuff? Or would it be as simple as popping off the silver after the airbag is pulled and inserting the black surround?

Thanks. I actually did not disconnect the battery. Was careless of me.

I'm not sure exactly. I did much searching before I bought my parts and I seem to remember that 2013 differs from 2014 by like 1 or 2 wires. If I recall it has something to do with the "return" button, the little loopy arrow. I'll see if I can dig up that info again.

Not sure if the 2014 controls are plug and play for older years. I'm guessing they are not (see above).

I believe there are modules out there that will allow you to utilize the factory steering wheel controls to control an aftermarket radio, maybe try *********.com

You might be best off getting the controls for you year. Theoretically since it's going to be an aftermarket head unit any steering wheel controls could be programmed to the head unit but if some wires are not present to connect the controls to the radio, it still will not work properly.

    Not sure about this.

If all you are doing is changing out identical units, just different colors, it should be very easy. It will all be simple plug and play connections. You shouldn't even have to remove the steering wheel, I think.
