I have a 2005 Tacoma Sport. Has anyone ever installed a cabin filter in a 2005? I can be behind someone smoking a cigarette at a red light and it's just like their smoking in my cab! (yes, my windows are up....it's Alaska!)

    Any advise would be helpful!

yes, open the pass glove box, pull in the sides to take it completely out, pay attention to the dampener on the right side, and there you will see directly in front of you a black box, undo the two tabs on the door, open, and slide the old cabin air filter out, replace with a new one.

Also, try pushing the recirc button on the AC
I use it when I get around stinky diesels

This. I use a Hepa filter in my car, as my Wife has bad allergies, and asthma, but the only thing that really works, is hitting the Recirc button when your behind someone like that.

Does a 2005 even come from the factory with one? I am not sure what year cabin filters went mainstream but it was after 2005.

If you don't want to deal with smell, order carbon filter instead of regular from Toyota. Carbon filter combats bad smells but its little more expensive.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
Per Toyota, there was not officially a cabin air filter option on 05. But, look behind glovebox and flip down the short wide cover you'll see the slot to slide in a filter. They used same heater housing piece on all 05+.

I'm really cheap so I get 16x16x1 pleated filters and cut to 8x8. Ring the edge with scrap cardboard and some good ducttape for rigidity.

Or for about $12 or so i think you can see what fits a 2009 online and order that filter.

So as a smoker & a dog owner my truck tends to smell a little funky in the winter since the wondows are up when parked. I have those Glade vent clips and they work wonders!!!

While I usually advocate going OEM for all my filters, Fram makes a filter with activated carbon that performs better than the standard pleated paper filter.

But even that won't filter out all the smells. Using the recirc button helps a lot.

I believe 2005 2nd Gen Tacoma DOES NOT have a cabin filter. Those were only available 06+.

Toyota makes those filters with carbon too, but they only can be ordered through the dealer (not sure why).
If Fram works than this could be cheaper than a dealer one, but dealer is an option too.

The slot is there on model year 2005, but Toyota didn't start putting a filter in until the 2006 model year. Also, there are carbon filters available from other filter manufacturers.

My 05 didnt have a filter and I did this. I cut a furnace filter leaving 2 sides with cardboard and wrapped the other 2 corners in duct tape. I just used the cheapest blue furnace filter I could find. I dont really care about filtering smells and such, just wanted to see if it got dirty or not. I'll probably check it in the spring since I just put it in last summer.

I can smell people smoking in their cars when I'm around them. My windows are almost always down though.
