    Need suggestions
First is almost certainly a ugly push/pop and a jerk motion. So I shift to second and clutch it though it. But holding the clutch that long doesnt seem like a good plan of action. What are some opinions on this?

I don't really understand what you are trying to describe.

Are you saying something is wrong with 1st gear?

Maybe I don't understand the title of this thread, but you shouldn't be shifting out of 1st and into 2nd at 6MPH.

Well slap me on the ass and call me Remona!

I would never have gleened that out of what he said. And that would be stoopid. :)

I didn't think Murfreesboro was in Canadia. I was guessing Tennessee.

Rev match when you downshift and it makes it better. It's gonna be jerky if it has to go up a few thousands rpm from 2nd into first.

I have a 2010 6-speed [6 cyl.] that has never had problems with the clutch or shifter. You can start up in 2nd if you need to so if you're at 6 mph, I wouldn't down-shift to 1st. Only do that about 2 mph. Normal up-shift points for me are go to 2nd @ 20, 3rd @ 30, 4th @ 40, 5th @ 50, 6th @ 60. This will keep you right around 2000 rpm which seems to be the optimum for drivability and avoiding problems.

Don't let the poo flinging taco monkeys get to you OP. Sounds like you have the double extra special option with the 966 gear ratio. Just rap that bad boy up until it hits 8 mph and it will shift like butter. These tacos love to rev.

Here"s the gear : - Reverse. Then you will have a reason to go buy that automatic, witch sounds like what you should be driving anyway.

    I'm guessing the question is:

"I'm slowing down approaching a stop light and I'm almost stopped. But the light turns green and now I have to pick a gear. 1st seems too low, 2nd seems too high. What should I do?"

And the answer is - if you need to accelerate, go ahead and shift into first. But you need to blip the throttle to match RPMs - if the engine is idling it will indeed jerk the truck. But if you give it a little gas to match the RPMs (somewhere around 1500 to 2000) then your shift should go smoothly.
