As the title says, I'm looking for an off-shelf leaf pack that could support a 500-600 payload with no lift (or <1").

The General Springs are top of my list although they're rated at 200kg (440lbs). Alternate is the Ironman although I haven't found a load rating.

I'm trying to avoid going with a custom $$ Alcan pack, but may end up there given the requirements.

The 600lbs consists of a 400lb motorcycle and ~150 lbs of supporting rig. Front suspension are 5100 @ 0.85" w/stock coils.

Ya I dont thnk you'll find many options that give less than 1inch of lift in the leaf spring department. Air bags are great i have firestone ride rites and they are great. You can have them set at 5psi for no load then air up accordingly.

Thanks all. I like the Hellwig leaf pack, I'll contact them and see where it goes. Their website product line is confusing. Can't tell which is which.

Yeah it's the same, I don't think they ever updated it. I don't think they sell many, most of the guys with four wheel campers air using air bags, or a combination of full springs and air bags. I don't have any personal experience with these, just know of a couple guys with heavy campers using them.

It's kind of a gamble spending that much on overloads though honestly. I'd probably go for air bags first. If you don't like them at least you can get most of the money back selling them.

The full Hellwig 5-leaf pack is $380 shipped for both Left/Right sets. It's not JUST one overload spring but a full pack. It looks well worth it. No different than any of the other leaf-pack available.

After speaking to the guys at Hellwig, they did not recommend going with their 5-leaf pack as that setup is for folks who have a permanent load on their rig (e.g. camper).

He recommended going with the Hellwig EZ-990 (model 980), which he mentioned is a new setup for the tacomas. It was only $130 shipped and install was straight forward

The helper springs did raise the rear by 3/4"; however the ride feels just like stock. With my 5100's set at 0.75", it gives me a nice stance/height.

    ^^^^

Why did you even bother to ask?

You were determined to go with springs.... contrary to air bags, which were the consensus amongst all responders. These would have allowed you to adjust ride characteristics to weight ratio and hight.

.... and you still did the springs. But, after all, you were looking for springs.

    Awesome!

PS: I use both AAL's and Air Lifts, therefore I don't piss anyone off! ;)

the Hellwig leaf pack looks good, but I wonder how much it affects ride height/lift on an un-loaded truck??

Try sdsprings.com .. for less than $200 you are all set!

Look up your year/truck/model and the check out Air Lift number 59604.

Buy the T coupler too, and attach drill the air valve to your hitch mount.

Ask me for a pic tomorrow!

    That`ll work for ya!

99sh..i didn't catch what your truck is. This is a timely thread, as I'm looking to equip my bone stock '11 ACLB TRD Sp (towing package, V6, 1500 payload rating stock) for carrying a 550lb bike quite a few miles this summer.

The Hellwig helper seems like great insurance to bolster a suspension that SHOULD already be capable. 130 bucks seems like a deal for the peace of mind. It indicates that it's adjustable as well. Did you choose the 3/4" inch lift or is that simply what you got when you installed it

I had an off road shop tell me not to use air bags, because when off roading as the axle drops it can pull them apart/tear them.

    Thoughts?

you will want an inch or 2 so when loaded your truck levels out, but new leafs and air bags may be the best combination to raise it the least amount, I think most good leafs are around 2" lift...
