So i have a 2008 2.7 and it started running a little funny the other day engine light came on then it started running horrible and wouldnt rev over 3k rpms and the engine light started flashing. I parked it in the closest parking lot i could get to and left it. I called today to have it towed to my local toyota shop, i would have tried fixing it myself thinking one of the coils went bad and was going to swap it around and see if the error code followed it, but it is still under power train warranty so i figured id let the toyota shop deal with it. Anyways it turns out it was the coils and it isnt covered under my power train warranty. Also they said EVERY coil is bad and they leaked water through and all the plugs rusted up. The truck only has 68k miles on it and is very clean and well taken care of. Anyone know what would cause every coil to go bad at once or is it even possible?? Thanks!

Its hard to even imagine that what they saying is true. Even if coils leaked any water, it would evaporate pretty quickly since engine gets really hot. Those spark plugs don't rust (one thing Toyota got right)
So not sure how they are making you spend $700 on this. You sure its not banana in tailpipe ?:p

I would ask to see the codes they pulled. There should be one for each cyl.

    IE....

    P0301 - CYL 1
    P0302 - CYL 2
    P0303 - CYL 3
    P0304 - CYL 4

Not saying these are the codes they pulled, but they are common for coil misfire.

Read your warranty guide and see if maybe this could be covered by emissions warranty which I believe goes to 80K.

Call Toyota's customer care 800 number and get their take on it as well.

All four sounds kind of ... well crazy. Possible, but still crazy. Even just two at the same time is a little on the edge of reality.

Alright yeah thats what im figuring.. im going to call today and tell them to just change the one in cylinder one for the code i got when the light first came on (p0301). And im going to say im very concerned if all of them did actually go at once because it sounds like i have much bigger problems down the line..

I'm thinking there is problem with a common ground or power in the harness if indeed there are codes for all 4 coil packs. And I'd say that's a big IF.

Something smells like fish, to be sure.

So i called them out on it and was told 3 of them arnt male functioned but they dont seal so theyre letting water in and thats why they were going to replace them. Guy yesterday said every cylinder is misfiring.. i said replace the one coil and touch nothing else. Im going to change the plugs today myself and see how bad these really are.

Kind of need at least one of them to work or it wouldn't run at all.

I am having the same problem with not being able to rev over 3000 RPMs I have changed the crankshaft position sensor and then one coil and it revved up for a while but stop revving. Me and my brother decided to go ahead and just change all 4 and see what happens. We do not have water inside the coils. Were you able to get yours fixed and if so what was the solution PS thank you

I betting he got it back a long time ago.

Lol.... Just giving you hard time man.
    I’ve done it myself.
Hopefully the OP will come back and help Allstar out.
He apparently has the same issue the OP had?
