dont make the crf450 a supermoto.... its taking a perfectly good dirt bike and making it into a less than desirable street machine. The CRF450 motors are high maintenance and you will be replacing top ends left and right if you are riding it on the street.

Is the crf plated? I had a 650r sumo and it was the most fun I ever had. Was well worth the money and highly recommended. I sold it since were having a kid soon.
My bike was plated and on the street it was a blast.

Tough choice! Are you sumoing the 450 for track or street? I love supermotos but I personally wouldnt dd the crf450 on the street. I know some guys do but I would choose something different for everyday. Like the 650 mentioned above or drz 400sm.

XR650RSMFTMFW:thumbsup: But like he said the crf is a race bike and will need a lot more maintenance if you're street riding. The crf450x would be a bit better but still not fully street worthy.

I would be doing the kit to make it street legal and ride back and forth to work every once in a while. The speed limit is 35 most of the way. And it would be a beast on the streets

I had a plated crf450 sumo. Awesome track/race weapon. Terrible street manners.
There's just no in between, you're either accelerating like a bat out of hell, lofting the front wheel or you're on the binders.
I have a drz sm that's awesome on the street.

two very different creatures... the 650R is a motor thats a tank, will run and run forever without much more than oil changes.

The CRF250/450 motors are high strung lil guys with piston skirts so short you wonder how they dont turn sideways in the cylinder.

Believe me i love the CRF250/450's I had an 04 250X that had an 06 250R cam in it, opened up air box, rejetted, ecu changed for the 250R and a 250R pipe... thing ran great... But like the 450 you have MAYBE 7/10ths of a quart of oil in the engine side of the crank case... at 11k rpms that oil gets CHEWED UP QUICK and gets burnt quick.... not a good setup for street use of ANY KIND... even if its just to work here and there. Oil HAD to be changed every 3-4 hrs of riding at the track and sometimes id stretch it to 120mi of trail riding (but i had to watch oil level and make sure to keep it topped off as by nature the crf motors eat oil). Even if i only rode the bike 2 hrs at the track hard... oil would come out black as night when 2 hrs prior it was fresh.

What im trying to say is dont ruin a perfectly good dirtbike and turn it into something that good at nothing. Now if your doing track supermoto... 450R is where its at!!!

If you want a supermoto the DRZ400 or KTM 690SMC is where its at.... buddy has the 690 (actually just sold it to a member here on tw) and man that thing was a hoot to ride. but had great street manors as well.

Although me personally, id save up for a Yamaha FZ-09 ... those are sweet, if i didnt have my Honda 919 street bike, id buy one of those.

go with the supermoto. and ignore what the above poster said about the 450 on the street, i have friends that have done and continue to do so. it requires some maintenance, but it is damn fun...

but, i may be biased... some of my stable:
