So I am having a weird electrical problem, hope someone can help.

I have no dash lights on the instrument cluster. If I pull the IG1 no2 fuse out the dash lights come on. This also put my check engine light on

Any ideas on what could be going on?

I've checked fuses, all are good. Any ideas?

Another member a while back had the same problem, and it turned out that the dimming nob had been turned all the way down by someone in his family. It's always worth a look.

I'll check the ECU-B fuse tomorrow too cold now.

I've checked dimmer knob, still controls the heater controls and gear indicators

I tried the ECU-B, no change.

The thing that has me completely stumped is if I pull the IG1 no.2 fuse out I have dash lights.

Tail fuse, behind the coin holder. This fuse is for dash lights too. Replace it.

Did you recently install a new radio?

Yes but the dash lights were out before that.

Factory unit stopped working a few months back, then about a month ago the dash lights stopped. I figured that was related to the radio, but they didn't come back with the new radio.

Old radio stopped working because a certain 2 year old thought it was a piggy bank when I let her sit in the car while I was vacuuming it.

There's an orange wire from the wire harness, it's to dim your radio when the lights come on, check it to make sure it isn't shorting.

I did that like an idiot on my first tacoma in 08.

    If not good luck man.

Checked the harness, still didn't do it. Completely stumped, may be off to Toyota and their $125 diagnostic fee.

When you pull out the fuse and the dash lights work - what is now NOT working??

Also - try unplugging/disconnecting the radio HARNESS just to be sure the issue is not being caused by the radio.

I'm talking about the back lights on the cluster. Warning lights, gear and turn signals still light up.

Canufixit, I'm going to check what doesn't work tomorrow, there is a lot of stuff on that fuse, and yes I pulled the harness today, I even cut the Orange wire on the harness to see if that was causing my issue.

Could it be related to the "dimmer" wire that goes to the radio??

Tail lights work and rest of the illumination does as well.

It could be related to the radio dimmer I guess, that doesn't dim, but everything on the radio harness and toyota side is connected properly.

I think it's a bad dimmer, I just pulled it out and now I have dash lights
