I am trying to decide which package to order, so any personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to buy a DCSB, 4x4. Almost all my driving will be on road. lot of freeway stuff.

A few times a year I drive from Washington to San diego loaded up with fishing gear. I am very familiar with the grapevine/ Los Angeles freeway system and its legendary bumpy stretches of freeways.

How do the sr5 and sport package do in these conditions?

    Thanks for your input

According to you're profile it looks like you're after a 2016 which is a complete redesign. So with that said nobody really knows the exact answer as the truck will essentially be a completely "new" beast.

If you're after a 2015, I can vouch for the TRD Sport, I test drove both an SR5 and Sport and ended up ordering the Sport. I figured with as much money as these trucks cost, might as well add a couple thousand more and get as much comfort as I could. I can tell you that living in AK with our frost heaves and crappy roads I enjoy the ride quality much better than my Subaru Legacy, but that's comparing apples to oranges.

Best advice would be to wait until the 2016's hit the dealers, then test drive them and decide for yourself.

You can always upgrade the SR5 shocks with Bilstein 5100's which personally ride great for me. I like the scoop to much to order any of the other options. I also prefer the color matched bumpers, handles, mirror, etc that the sport package has but that as well can be painted to match your truck. I guess it just depends what you like better, but as far as comfort I would think that everyone that has their Tacoma loves the ride.

Also, if you are going with 2015 or older and plan to do a lift or anything along those lines the ride is a moot point. You will be changing out the suspension anyways so the real difference is the seats and lower profile tires with 17's vs. 16's.

Edit: I type to slow. Also yes, the sport is a prettier version lol.

I have locally driven the sports and sr5s. I like the seats better in the sports.

I had a 3/4 ton dodge diesel that road ok until I hit the So Cal freeway system...then it was like riding a buckboard (unloaded) really bad. I am just trying to understand the differences between the two trucks that you have experienced.

I know that the 2016s will be a bit different, but I imagine the ride differences will be similar.

I actually like the seats in my sr5...I have upgraded shocks, rims and tires. The biggest difference I can see as far as feel is the seats.

You should try to test drive both and see what you like better. I have the TRD Sport and am very happy with it. Here are the main differences between the two packages.

    TRD Sport Package:
    • Hood scoop
    • TRD Sport graphics
    • Sport suspension with Bilstein® shocks
    • 17-in. alloy wheels with P265/65R17 tires
    • Color-keyed grille surround, bumpers, power outside mirrors, door handles, overfenders
    • Sport fabric-trimmed front seats with driver’s lumbar support (passenger-side fold-flat feature delete)
    • Overhead console with maplights and sunglasses storage
    • 115V/400W deck-mounted AC power outlet

    SR5 Package:
    • Chrome grille surround and rear bumper
    • Color-keyed front bumper and overfenders
    • Bucket seats with 4-way adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support
    • SR5 fabric-trimmed seating surfaces

The seats alone are worth getting the sport

That's personal preference. I didn't like the sport seats.

I have an '05 SR5 DC with the overhead console. I don't have the AC outlet, nor the fancy graphics. I do have the passenger-side fold-down-flat, though. To the OP, like you, the closest I get to off-roading is a few dirt roads, and some gravel driveways. Personally, I don't do much towing, and I'm assuming neither do you, but my best suggestion to you would be to get the tow package, no matter which model you go with. The tranny cooler, alone, is certainly worth it in the long run.

I traded in my 14 sr5 for a 15 trd or. Love the better seats and firmer suspension as compared to the sr5.

I am in the process of trading my TRD Sport for a Limited (leatherette Sr5 seats).

I much prefer the Sr5 suspension and seats.

As many above have said, test drive both and make a decision. Comfort is very individual.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry to bump an old thread but I've tried to search. I'm sure there is a thread out there somewhere but I just can't seem to find it. Please link it if it's been answered somewhere

But I'm looking to buy my first taco. It will be gen 2. (2013 and newer hopefully) And I love everything about the TRD sport except that most of them don't have leather seats. I know there are some other there that have the leather package but since I'm buying used, I don't get pick and choose the options. So I've also been looking at the 2013 Limited. It has everything else I want except the TRD suspension.

So what would you guys do? Should I get the Limited and swap out suspension parts? Would they be direct swaps or am I missing something else?

Or should I get the TRD sport and forget about the seats? (what else would I be missing out on?)

Mostly a work truck but would love the option of doing some light off roading so that's why I would like the sport suspension.

    Thanks

None of the Tacomas came with factory leather. Those with leather, of which you've come across, are aftermarket covers; usually Clazzio or Katskin.
