I agree with this statement. OP, you know full well you'd need tranny work in the coming months. It's not the dealer's fault at all... IMHO.

so you guys are trying to tell me that something that you were told would need to be addressed within a year maybe is just thrown on your lap because it's pushed over the edge by someone else wouldn't bother you? Yea right.. All I asked for was an honest looking into what, if anything happened.. There's a thing called customer service, exactly what my career is in, and in no way have I been treated respectfully through this.. I didn't ask for a free fix, just sn honest look into the problem, which I was promised, but not followed through upon

My occupation is ALL about client service and pampering, I don't see how you've been treated disrespectfully. They are charging you $100 to diagnose the problem.

The $100 charge to find what is wrong is not bad customer service. It's a fee for services to be rendered.

To expect a free diagnosis (from a dealer and long after warranty has expired) is insane.

Your post stated the 3rd gear has been harder to get into lately. Take it to an independent tranny shop and have them repair it, not replace it.

1.) Well, for a while, my truck hasn't shifted into reverse all that smoothly.

2.) I regret ever leaving with the truck, but I wanted to talk to my mechanic first (first mistake).

3.) I completely understand there was probably a developing problem, but it seemed like it was pushed over the top.

4.) I've had the typical grinding into 3rd gear lately, so I'm sure the synchros are going.

It seems you knew this was coming for some time and did nothing to correct the problem. Now that it has bloomed you have sour grapes about it and are looking for more than the dealer is obligated to do.

Get a used transmission out of a bone yard somewhere and have your mechanic install it. I think your syncros are shot. Not seeing the inside of the transmission I cannot say for sure. Or take it to a reputable transmission shop and have them go through it.

    I see two choices:

    1. Trade the truck
    2. Drop a used 6MT speed into it for $1000 or less.

This. the dealer did not break your tranny or shifter. you brought in an already broken and problematic machine, and are surprised someone might have just tried to use it normally and it finally broke, or was bent to the point of failure ? no you win nothing on this issue

Look at it this way. If you pick up a clutch kit and a decent used transmission the dealer could swap both in about an hour during a frame replacement. Several hours otherwise. I've changed lots of clutches over the years and they are SO easy when the engine/trans are out of the vehicle.

My thought exactly. You have a new frame already in the works, why not just have them repair/swap out tranny when already in pieces. Just curious also since you're local what dealer you are working with? I have had hit or miss luck with Lancaster Toyota. I had my springs done but it took some bitching on my part and getting red in the face.

FWIW, you may have a bent or worse shift fork and bad syncros. A number of the '05s had problems with both and because of this there began a flurry of part upgrades (yes, the shift forks and syncros) and even new versions of the transmission. The current 6-speed is version no. 3.

You would not want to be talked into a new trans as it now retails for some $3300+/- and a few hundred less if you hunt around. So bad deal. Probably a good used can be found, check car-part.com try to get a '12+ to '15 as it would have most of the upraded/revised parts and be a direct swap.
