Chances are, if you have to use layaway then you shouldn't use a credit card...because you probably wouldn't pay more than the minimum on the credit card and interest would start adding up.

You could always just by it piece by piece instead of the entire kit at once. Maybe cost you a little more but not by much

Most everything people put on layaway was department store type retail stuff. Allowed people to take advantage of limited time sales items (and retailers to gin up business by offering more sales) and limited stocks when they didn't have enough cash on hand. And I think the idea got its start before credit cards were available let alone common.

Not trying to get off OP's topic, but the ONLY time I've ever seen lay-a-way useful, is during the Christmas season when parent's have lots of toys/clothes for their little ones and want to hide it. They can shop in November and not pick their stuff up until late December. Which sucks for us because we're the ones who have to deal with it, but I guess that's how you get people to shop at your store haha

since you have to wait for the last piece, it makes no difference - you just pay more for the same :notsure:

Here's my advice to the OP:

    1. Save before! If it's e.g $1000 lets say you want it in 3 month (~6 paychecks) 1000/6= $167 a paycheck you have to save. As soon as you get paid, put $167 in a savings account, piggy bank, cookie jar...

    2. Use the time to find the best deal on the internet (inlcuding shipping).

    3. Once you're ready, use a cash back debit/credit card to pay for it and collect 2% cash back ($20)

    4. Treat your whole family to a "dollar menu" feast at the local McD putting the cash back to use!

Layaway is good if you "rack-a-disceprine"

OP , I think Elite Offroad offers a layaway program on their bumper group buy
