That speed should be fine. Just use your brain and don't drive it balls to the wall.
Also, don't make sharp turns on immovable surfaces. Try to make them in sand, loose rock, dirt, etc.

The most critical time is in transition from unlocked to locked.
looking at the drawings, it seems to be engineered pretty well in the locked configuration.
I'll drive minimum maintenance roads 30-40Mph with it locked and I haven't had problems.
But true engineering tests for longevity is in-service use no matter what the computer models say!

I have been locked going much faster than 40 mph on hard packed dirt. Only thing I have heard of that will destroy the locker is by useing the E-brake to initiate a slide on asfault, then spinning donuts. If your on dirt or such, your fine.

    see my sig
ha ha ha. Me too. i am glad to hear that someone else did this. i was driving back from the dealership when i bought it new and the freaking locker button is right beside the fog lights. So being unfamilar with the set up i pressed the locker button, got on the highway and drive 17 miles home. I noticed once i got into my nieghborhood what i had done.
Still going strong 3.5yrs and 30k miles later.

I think that it won't engage/lock unless you are going under 5 or 15mph, but once it's locked you can go as fast as you want... however, it will only engage in 4Lo on the TRD-OR (unless you modify the wiring/switch), and in my opinion if you need to drive faster than 15mph you probably don't need to be in 4Lo or have it locked. The PreRunners with lockers are 2wheeldrive and can be used/driven differently than the 4x4TRD
