I strongly believe that the ECU's on these trucks are destined to fail or malfunction well before any standard mechanical problem fells the mighty second gen Tacomas. I believe this affects at least all trucks until '11 and possibly beyond.

In 5 years there will be a prominent sticky on how to swap out your ECU at the very top of this forum

    Damn you computers!

Yes, you're right, my ECU has prohibited me putting 285k miles on my truck.

Call it a hunch; a premonition...it happened to me....I have seen it in various threads over the years; it came to me in a dream.

This premonition will come to pass...of that, I am sure™

I had an 86 k5 blazer with a failing spark knock edu behind the glove box. I kept a foot long screwdriver in the truck to stick in the gap behind the glove box to whack the shit out of the ecu when my truck wouldn't crank. Worked every time I did it for 6 months

Let's assume this said ECU fails under 80,000 miles. You are covered by federal emissions warranty. Federal law mandates all manufacturers cover all emissions related failures up to 80,000 miles. Most people with 11's should be well under that. Unless they drive a lot. Then they're screwed. Lol. Even then, I highly doubt the ECU will be one of the most common points of failure on these trucks. The ones that will or have, makes me have to wonder, how many were offroading and fording across seas of water, using their truck as the submarine vessel?
