    Hello Taco Gods.
I have taken delivery of a 2015 DCSB 6 speed. I intend to have a supercharger installed ASAP. The problem is how long is ASAP? Should I have it installed now (my preferred choice), or would it be better to wait till the first oil change (5000 miles) and go through another break-in period.
I would like to get some of your opinions on the matter.
Thanks guys. Always interested in reading all the different opinions and suggestions.

    Quetaco.

Vehicles today do not have the same break in requirements as in years past. Also some vehicles come with a turbo or SC so you might as well do it now.

I waited 5 moths. But could of got it done once I wrote that massive cash check.

No reason not to get it done right away.

Read about finding the best price and make sure you pick a dealer that has done many of them. If your in Dallas go here.

    Toyota of Dallas
    http://trdparts4u.toyotaofdallas.com/scripts/openExtra.asp?extra=5

Mine out the door in Las Vegas was almost $6k. I could of got it done for less, maybe $5.2k but finding the right dealership matters. Talked to the tech etc, they gave me a rental. Dropped off Monday, picked up Thursday.

What's the latest you should install?
I'm thinking if installing on 2010 with 72k miles.
All on Mobil 1 changed every 4k miles

RockL installed his, labor can be from $900 to $1500, depending on the dealer. It's a 10 hr install, if not more, depending on the experience of the tech.

A compression test and a lab oil analysis would be a cheap way to verify the internals are healthy.

If it passes muster, go for it.

You think so? My first engine oil analysis was chock full of metal. 2nd was leaps and bounds better, but still out of specs in 2 areas.

I expect the 3rd to be perfect, but don't just assume your engine is broken in when you buy it. Here are the two reports from Blackstone: 4500 miles

There is a lot of metal here, but don't worry. High wear is perfectly normal in new engines. The metals are
simply coming from new parts wearing in, and they should improve greatly over the next 2-3 oil changes. Eventually
things should look like universal averages. They show typical wear levels for this type of engine after about 5,500 miles
on the oil. Silicon is from harmless factory sealers, and that should wash out too. The viscosity is in the 5W/20 range,
but that won't hurt anything. There's no fuel or coolant here. Just check back to monitor progress.

9625 miles: We were looking for improvements in this sample and this oil did not disappoint. Copper has improved to just
24 ppm and silicon is down to 71 ppm. Both readings are still elevated, but they should continue to improve from here,
so we'll just look forward to that next time. Other metals have already improved nicely, so this engine has made some
great progress overall. The viscosity was fine and no fuel, moisture, or coolant contamination was found. Insolubles,
which are oxidized solids caused by heat, use, and/or blow-by read nice and low at just 0.1%. Looks great!

Add tax and environment fees, gallon or two of antifreeze, shop rag fees. Still an awesome price.

I don't have a SC, and it was the factory oil... which was 5W30 and after 4500 miles had broken down to 5W20 viscosity.

My point is, does the factory actually "break in" the engines. When do they do this? How many "miles" do they put on the engine? Do they hook it up to a Dyno before or after they put it in the truck?

Does that even sound reasonable? Aside from making sure it works properly, I don't think they do anything else but drop it in the truck and roll it out.

I don't know for sure, but in my experience with the 2 oil samples taken on my truck it sure doesn't look like the engine was "broken in at the factory".

I'm not trying to be argumentative, and I'm not trying to be a dick, but does it sound reasonable that a car manufacturer would "break in" an engine? And as I asked above, when do they do this? How do they do this?

Judging by the oil samples on my own truck, it's either not true, or was certainly not done to my truck's engine.

Nope $4900 even, out the door. And they gave me a loaner for a couple days while doing the work. And added octane boost to my tank. No taxes here though.

So you want the manufacturer to put the equivalent of 10k miles and two oil changes on the engine before buying it? Define "breaking in", if so.

the manual never calls for 20weight in the 1GR.... unless you live in a real cold climate.
