For the most part, I rarely exceed 2.5K RPMs. I can't remember ever going WOT in my truck. Is this somehow bad for the truck? Should I floor it every once in a while for any mechanical reason?

I was told by my grampa whos very mechanically savy that its good to punch it once in a while to loosen up/blow out built up carbons. I dont know if its true or not, but i punch it every once in a while.

Keep in mind your grandpa grew up in the world of carb'd engines, no fuel injection and no computer systems. This day and age, there's no reason to go WOT to 'blow anything out'. In his time, there was.

The old Italian Tuneup still applies today. Just because a vehicle is fed its fuel differently and its ignition systems are more advanced; those still can't account for build up on valve stems and carbon on the Pistons...

I agree. Obviously vehicles are more fuel efficient, but there most definitely is still carbon that gets built up. I think it's a great idea to blow it out every now and then and do it myself. This is ESPECIALLY true on a direct injection engine, in which the valves do not get the benfit of gasoline sprayed on them to clean them.

I open mine up pretty good every day usually.

Normally when I get some v8 lifted truck riding my ass on the back roads of wv and he realizes he is faster than me in the straights but when it starts getting twisty he can't hang. Usually that's every day. Lots of rednecks in 80s and 90s chevys on huge tires running around here.

Minus wheeling and being in 4low, I don't think I've ever broken 3.5k RPMs on the road in the last 4 years

On the way home I can take a back route, closed course road. I'm going to get on it because why not, right?
