Don't know where you are but it seldom snows in Aug. even in Maine and most city dwellers have to go a long way to find loose gravel.

That's my solution, too. I just use it every time I'm on a dirt road in the summer. Figure it adds up to 10 miles/month easily.

I for one do not wish to live in a world where I have to travel a long way to get away from pavement. But for those unfortunate people who do, a straight paved road is acceptable, especially if it's wet.

Yeah, I'm not going to lie, if you have a simple question TacomaWorld is a bad place for it now. Lots of guys looking to stir things up at the expense of others rather than simply help new guys out. Good luck OP, don't let a bit of ribbing scare you off. Feel free to talk to a mod if you really think you were railroaded here, but I think it was all in good fun and the conversation actually yielded some good points.

I know Toyota recommends the 10 mile a month thing... but they also recommend not driving in four wheel drive on dry hard surfaced roads. You stated the manual doesn't say anything about it... actually, it does.
I'm in the high desert of central oregon. I think there's more dirt/gravel roads and trails around here than paved. If you can't find dirt/gravel and have to drive those 10 miles on pavement you'd be better off doing it when the pavement's wet to get some slippage.

Straight line hard pavement 4X4 engaged, how exactly is this BAD ?

All those links you post speak to turning, but not going straight while engaged.

With tires that are worn differently and are therefore a slightly different circumference, I've heard that it can build up tension because there's no loss of traction to allow for the slightly different wheel speeds necessary.

But, for most of us who have matching tires that we rotate that wouldn't be a problem.

Plus we aren't the Romans. How many roads do you know of that are actually perfectly straight for 10 miles? Not many.

These threads. LOL. Every damn time.

Not surprised, if you can't get hold of a simple concept or follow an SOP on forums...

I think you'll find that the common factor to most of your problems is...YOU.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

Please don't hestitate to let me know if I can be of further assistance.
