So have I done any damage? I accidentally left my truck in 4 wheel drive on hard pavement driving to work at speed averaging 60MPH. I have a nasty 2nd class road I live on and have to put it in 4 wheel to get up the icy snow covered road. I forgot to take it out coming to work this morning when I hit the pavement for the 48 mile trip in.

Should not be a issue, I take it there was no turns on 48 mile trip? Chirping tires usually get my attention.

    Better tires
I'm a new member and have a quick question about tire sizes. Just ordered a new 4WDTacoma Access Cab w/SR5 package w/ TRD alloy wheels. Dealer not sure what size tires this option combination will come with. Any of you have any ideas, 245/65R 16, 265/70R 16, or 265/75R 16?

Actually neither, tires on the trucks on dealer parking lot are for display only. When you come to pick up truck you need to bring your own rims and tires...

OP, if you aren't hearing any strange noises from your driveline your truck is fine. You put a little extra stress on the U-joints, U-joint bearings, CV's, axles, and tires but the odds are you probably just took 0.00001% off of their lifespans. The fact that you traveled in a straight line helps more than anything with minimizing any damage you could of caused.

It happens to everyone. There have been a few times I hit pavement, notice the tires binding, and flip the 4WD off :p.

If you do hear strange noises odds are you just messed up a U-joint bearing. My mom did that once by driving her GMC Yukon around for a day in town (lots of turning) while the truck was in 4 Hi. Even then it wasn't a terribly expensive repair, only a couple of hundred bucks if I remember correctly.

WOW. Start a new thread pls. There should be a multiple choice test on thread rules when new members join.

Sound like you got lucky this time. Sharp turns are the main problem... if you didn't experience any binding, wheel hop, or loud noises up front your probably fine. Don't feel bad... we've all done it. Here's a link that explains it more... http://4x4abc.com/4WD101/def_turnpart.html

If you have such a low esteem of how well you truck is made maybe you should not have bought it. The drive line is far tougher than the tires. If you don't wish to damage your drive line don't take it off road and climb over rocks in low range that's far harder on the CV's and Ujoints. Toyota recommends using 4WD at least 10 miles once a month there is nothing in the manual about never on dry roads. Please feel free to ignore this but don't whine when your ADD doesn't work or axle support bearings fail.

Self esteem is a view of ones self, not ones truck...

Climbing over rocks allows the drive line to slip which gets rid of binding, unlike pavement...

Ask any dealer, 4WD is not for use on dry pavement...

You've trolled enough for one day I think.

Yes your tires do slip but what makes you go forward is when they grab under a lot of torque it does not matter if you are making a hard turn in 4WD the stress is there when you regain traction, you really want to stress your drive line light your tires up on the pavement. No troll dude just 50+ year of dealing with transfer cases and drive lines.

Sure. What I heard, and so did OP, was a bunch of insults at him owning a truck and a few half facts from you. Yes, the damage is done in 4WD when the tires bind (aka have traction) and force is exerted back into the driveline components because everything is locked up. Turning creates a speed/rotational differential between the front and rear wheels. If the differential force is stored by the system rather than released by the tires slipping you could cause damage to the driveline. You don't need to be an expert to know that . OP has already heard that several times. There was no need to hurl it in his face as rudely as possible.
