Hey guys, I will be transferring colleges from northwest Indiana, to the southern tip of Indiana. With that being said I am currently commuting from home and use my truck to carry my dirt bike, other then that its just a DD. When I move down south I am looking to possibly trade my truck in on a new FRS to get some decent mpgs as I will no longer have the dirt bikes. What do you guys think is a realistic estimate for what I should let the truck go for? I'm not 100% on trading it in yet but exploring my options. I sure as heck will not let it go for nothing as I love the truck more than anything, but the gas mileage + ($600 month payment) as a college student and DD isn't exactly pleasant. The truck is a 2013 TX BAJA DCSB with roughly 32k on the odometer. If you guys have any ideas or pointers I would greatly appreciate it. Even if it does go, I will definitely be purchasing another Tacoma after college. What do you guys think is a number worth letting it go for?

go to a dealership and ask what they would give you. it will proabaly be at least $5k less then you could get in a private sale

Its all speculation until you actually try to sell it. If its bone stock in good shape, I would expect the dealer to give you mid 20's on trade in probably.

A member sold a 2008 for 23k very recently, try private sale, ask more and see what kinda of response you get.

Compare your loan payoff to KBB and NADA values. Will you owe? If so, your new payment may not be much better. To me, also a college student, your $600 payment would be more of a concern than the fuel cost.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
You love the truck. Jumping from one vehicle to another isn't the answer imo. You've paid sales tax once already. I would slap some new spark plugs in it, keep the tire pressures up and drive it easy. Pay it off, move forward, start a 401k and put as much away as you can. Stay the course. Good luck.

That point is moot since, in Indiana, you get a credit on the tax for your trade in.

If you can't afford your payments and need to downsize because of it, that's one thing.

If you're doing it mainly because of gas mileage; I think you will probably loose more money from trading in a Tacoma that is only a couple years old, than you will gain from the better mpg of the FRS. You really have to keep the truck for longer than a couple years before realizing a high resale value.

As stated, step 1 is to see what a dealer will give you for it.

Sounds like you're moving from the Chicago Area to the Indiana, Kentucky border. I would wait and see if you'll regret getting rid of the truck before you decide to sell. There may very well be more trails where you are heading.

University of Evansville or University of Southern Indiana?

I'd keep the truck, but you should do what you want to do.
