I had to select 91 octane with an asterisk ... in the Omaha area where I am currently working I always try to find non-ethanol gas and it varies from station to station what octane grade they sell that is non-ethanol. In most of the stations that have non-ethanol it is 91 octane, but if they have a lower octane grade that is non-ethanol I will fill up with that just for the monetary savings.

The oil companies only have the lowest and highest octanes at the pump station. I.e. If the station offers 87, 89, 91 and 93 octane and you choose 91, the pump mixes the proper amounts of 87 and 93 to end up with 91.

Dear God, I wish CA had ethanol free gas. That shit screws up gas mileage something wicked.

Hm. The station I mostly use has an ethanol mix in their 87 but pure in both their 89 and 91. I'm guessing they'd have to run all three of their mixtures in their tanks to be able to do that.

I'll run their 89 unless I'm towing then I'll run premium.

Chances are the 89 has ethanol in it, unless the station has three storage tanks which is highly improbable.

Except that would be illegal in this state to label the fuel as containing 0 ethanol and stick ethanol into it anyways.

You might want to investigate that, it very expensive for a refinery to produce multiple octanes and multiple storage tanks. I know in Pa depending on where the gas station is, and population of that area depends on ethanol or non ethanol gasoline.

Well these stations up to about 4 years ago were selling 0% ethanol low and premium grades and 10% ethanol mid-grade. They switched to 10% low grade for about 2 years, then switched their mid grade to 0% ethanol. No new construction at these stations so they likely have the tanks already in place for when they were doing the 0% ethanol low and premium grades and 10% ethanol mid-grade.
