    When lifting suspensions would you recommend a larger wheel size ( 18,20 )with the bigger tires or stick with the 17" but go wider?

    Probably not the best person to chime in considering I'm new to trucks, but I sold tires for years in college...so I have that knowledge.

    A bigger wheel means smaller tire sidewall. The smaller the sidewall, the rougher the ride. So consider that.

    Also consider the bigger the wheel diameter, the more expensive the tires are. If you are lifting and want an aggressive tire, you will shell out a lot of money for tires on a 20" especially compared to a 17".

    Offroading, I would assume you want more tire and less wheel to allow for flex and such.

    17's look good on these trucks. In my mind, any bigger is just cosmetic and doing nothing for you (possibly making things tougher, actually).

    Yeah I personally think 17"s are perfect I'm running a 17x8.5 wheel and 285/70/17 tire.

    These trucks ride like shit anyways. Tire thickness isn't going to affect much at all. It all comes down to your style and budget. With smaller rims, tires are cheaper. With bigger rims, tires cost more.

    I went with 18" wheels. I like the size and way it looks on the truck. Plus I was able to get the tire size I wanted (33x12.5x18). See my pics.

    Big rims (20") / small sidewall tires = poser, mall crawler, whatever

    Lift with those wheels and tires looks good :thumbsup:
    Right now i have Fuel Hostage 20" wheels with 33's (33x12.5x20). I bought it like this and cant wait to change to a smaller wheel, preferably 17" but keep 33's. Id like the taller side wall.

    I wheeled my 20s with 33s too! Not bad just less side wall. And personally dont like it..but its all comes down to personal preference really.

    How does it ride on and off road with the 18s and 33s? im thinking of staying at 33s for now but bumping down to 17s. Ideally id like to go to 35s but thatd be after i redo my lift.

    I definitely agree on the personal preference. And thinking of sticking with the 33s based on the mpg and cost. Didnt know about trimming your fenders with anything larger than 33s so thats a new reason as well.

    I like the look of those!:thumbsup:

    I run 16's. If I ran the overall same size tire but on a 17" wheel, the tires cost $40 more a piece. 265/75-16 load c duratrac cost $183/tire. 265/70-17 load c duratrac cost $221/tire. That's an extra $160 for a set of tires for a 1" larger wheel.

    Damn thats a lot for an inch difference! And its less side wall. I havent priced mine yet so we will see, but hoping its not a huge difference in price.

    This is all interesting. Eventually I want to do a 2.5" lift on my truck. And then figure out what to do with tires/wheels. My stock rims are 16" factory. Thinking of just painting them black rather than replacing them.

    Next fall I need tires that can actually handle snow/ice (the AT20's Toyota gives you don't grip much).

    This thread is useful to me too! :)
