    Hello all,

I have a 2014 stock TRD 4 door Tacoma. I essentially want it to look exactly like the Tacoma below, which claims to be a 35" all terrain tire with a fabtech 6" lift, literally the only difference I'd want to the truck pictured is black wheels instead of chrome. What is it for? Well I won't be doing anything extreme as this is my first truck I've purchased on my own and is my daily driver. To many of you, you'd probably consider it a "road queen." I will be taking it off-roading, but nothing to the point of having to worry about damaging. Being pulled out of the mud at best. I've been doing a lot of research and learned a lot, but there's some questions I'm un-sure of.

What will this cost me total? (just a guess would be fine)
Will I have to worry about rubbing? (I'd rather not trim)
What would I need to re-gear to?
What size of wheels should I get? (Was considering 18, since It's a daily driver would it be better for road driving if it were larger?)

gonna say do what ever you want. But you will get no love from me on a drop bracket lift like that.

and with 35's do yourself a favor and regear.

Personally, I would stay away from a dbl (drop bracket lift). You will not be getting much clearance under your truck even running 35's. One of my close friends has a dbl on his truck with 35's and his axel clearance is only a little higher than stock. I would go with a mid travel lift if you plane to take the truck off road at all. However, if your are specifically building a pavement princess, 6" dbl will be just fine!

    3. 488 is a good choice, but you can do others.
    4. 17'' minimum is required for most lifts.

Thank you, this is the perfect kind of input I was looking for. I will look at mid travel lifts. I'm not very mechanically inclined and this is a really helpful response. Thanks!

Price wise, that's exactly around what I was assuming. Trying to get my truck all paid off first, but It's really hard haha.

As for re-gearing, how do you decide? There's not specific ones that are optimal for tire size?

Why is it that 17" is required?

I'm not a big fan of the 6" lifts. Personally I think they are to high for or trucks. I love my 3" lift and I get just as much clearance if not more then the 6" drop bracket lifts. I'd say look into a 3" lift. For a good suspension lift you will be spending anywhere from $800-$2,000 depending on if you get aftermarket UCA's which with a 3" lift you will want to get to correct your alignment issues back to factory specs. Stay away from spacer lifts IMO and go full suspension.

No problem. A very common lift that guys run on here and including myself is the bilstein 5100 lift. You can use stock coils or aftermarket eibach coils and you can get from 0" to almost 3" of lift in the front end. I'm running a 265 70 17 (32" tire) with no rubbing issues. But once all the snow is gone by me, I'm going to try running a 285.

This is pretty much the lift I have. I have the 5100's set at 0" with Toytec 885 coils and I got a full 3 "s of lift out of it with the top plate spacers. I'm also running 285's and you just need to do some minimal trimming....nothing a dremel cant take care of. ;)

Nice, I also got 3 inches out of mine. I was a little hesitant at running 285s so I stuck with the 265s but now I'm ready for a bigger tire!

Since I was thinking of having a 35s, this probably wouldn't work and have rubbing issues? The way I understood was that, even with a 6" lift I might have rubbing issues.

Yeah a buddy of mine went from 32"s to 33"s and he liked that look better. Actually 285's come out to like a 32.6" tire so not quite 33"s.

I've been told that even with a 6" lift with 35"s that there is quite a bit of trimming to do and possibly a cab mount chop.

If it would be cheaper just to get a smaller tire, what do you think is the biggest you could go without trimming? I wanna go big and not worry about upgrading again later on, but I don't wanna go so big that I have a bunch of problems I have to sort out.

Because the kits relocate your tierods to the top of the mount compared to the bottom like stock.

Honestly with a 6" lift I'm not really sure since I have no experience with it. I know with a 3" lift about the biggest you can go is 33"s. So a 3" lift is out of the question for you? You know that make a 4.5" lift as well from RCD or some company like that.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I wanna get 35's as for what I'll have to do to get 35's under my truck is what I have to figure out, haha.

So I'm assuming a drop bracket lift is just for looks? Where as a mid travel lift would have actual use and give you clearance?

My son's truck looks pretty sweet with Icons set to 3" and 285s. Kit was slightly less than 2k. Tires and wheels were about 1500.

Definitely a nice truck, but there's something about driving a truck that people always cry about being too tall to climb into that makes me smile.

I certainly understand that, but I can promise you that having a truck that big brings more problems than the cool factor is worth.

I fully realize that the previous statement will fall on deaf ears. I was young once too. :D Hell, I drove a Jeep as a daily driver with 40s on it when I was in my 20s.
