Like the subject says, my 2007 occasionally will not crank over. Key forward gives dash lights but when I attempt to crank I get silence. Wait a few minutes and it will work. Could it be some anti theft chip/communication between key and computer?

Happens once a week or so.

    Thanks.

    Yes sir
Might be your starter, I'm a lot more familiar with a diesel engine starter because of when the one went in my dad's '97 F350. I would turn the key and it would be silence and just a click, still had lights because the battery is fine.

I think it could be your starter though, since you have lights and all that your battery should be fine, and since your only getting the problem every once in a while which was what happened in my dad's truck like I was saying until one day it just didn't do anything. Luckily, if it is the starter, they're wayyyy cheaper for a tacoma compared to a diesel F350 :D

Hopefully some other opinions get thrown into the pot though :stirthepot:

Thank you. No solenoid click and battery is new. I figured if the starter was bad I'd have click. Have rocked I'd back and forth but not wacked the starter with a hammer.

Yea, personally I'm thinking it's your starter but that's just my opinion with what you said. Could also just be that the wires are corroded a bit that connect the starter to the battery, I've heard of that happening and they can be cleaned I believe.

Learn from my mistake, check the cheap stuff first. I would check the battery cable terminals. I ended up replacing the alternator, starter (twice), and battery. Spent almost $800 worth of parts and labor, not to mention the ridiculous amount of down time. Truck left me stranded 4 times in one month. Turned out to be a bad positive battery terminal (2 bucks!)the whole time! I have 130K miles on the truck and alternator and starter probably needed replacement due to age, but wish I had the option to go OEM instead of cheapo Autozone and Advance Autopart stuff.

edit...I just reread what you wrote-since you are getting dash light and no clicking it most likely is the starter.

The chip in the key and the computer rarely go out of sync or bad-cost about 150 to reprogram. But again this is most likely not the case-ask me how I know-lol.

Sure sounds like a failing starter.

Fog light mod, JBA LT headers, drop-in k&n filter, energy bushings, tried fold topper, 2nd air filter removed, all new stereo system minus subs, plastisol the wheels.
By chance, do u have your leg resting on the shifter ( if its an auto) because I have done that a few Tims where the truck thinks I'm in gear when my leg is resting on the shifter and it is moved over slightly.
I'm a big dude at 6'5" and 260 so it might just be me :)
