I have a 2008 4x4 v6 Tacoma and have had a slight engine rattle for the past few weeks. I can tell that its comming from under the hood and it only occurs when I lightly press the gas pedal to start moving from a stop, or when I slow down to a stop from moving, either way it only happens in very low rpms, less than 1000 normally, and it goes away as the rpms rise. It will also happen occasionally during cold starts and will last until I begin to drive. What could it be or where can I start looking?

    Check your exhaust heat shields.

I checked my exhaust heat shields and found one was loose. I added a washer to the bolt holding it in place and now the rattling isn't as bad but its still there. I have checked all the other shields and do not think that is the problem. The sound seems to be coming from the front of the car under the engine. What else could this be?

I know a few folks have had issues with the intake rattling. Check where the intake meets the fender.
