Warm a/c when sitting still

Hello everyone, I'm new to the Tacoma forums so bear with me. I have an 06 Access Cab 4wd and bought in during the late winter and didn't turn on the a/c. It blows nice and cold as long as I'm moving but when I stop.......well, it gets warm.......ok, hot. Right now I try not to go through town where I'll be in stop and go when it's a hot day. Suggestions please. Thanks for what ever information you can provide.

 

Well it should not get "hot" but it will be alot colder once your moving.

 

may need to get your r134a checked. its gonna get colder while you are moving cause of air hitting the condenser...............should stay cold when you are sitting too.

 

I'm re-reading your post, is the truck getting hot or is the air not blowing cold?

Truck running hot. I'm going to guess the thermostat, if it's not the thermostat there is a chance your radiator needs to be cleaned out. I would drain the coolant and put in a new thermostat, if that does not take care of it you may have to pull the radiator and take it to a radiator shop. Wait for a second opinion from the forum.

Air blowing hot. I would add a pound of R134.

 

The truck is not hot. Just the a/c air. Maybe it's time for a recharge.

I would wash the condenser and radiator first, then recharge. the condenser coil is not able to evacuate heat from the inside of your truck while sitting still, then it's probably caked with garbage. You may not need any refrigerant.

 

+1 on cleaning the condenser. Having the ac system leak checked would be a good idea too. There is no fan constantly pulling air through the radiator and condenser so, when you stop, it will not be as cold. Getting hot means the outside air is really hot, or you have issues.

 

your probably low on refrigerant. we have a ford escape that done the same thing. they charged the system and now we freeze.
