Rear Window

Anyone have a solution for keeping the rear window somewhat clean other than putting one of those rear widow covers/shades. Every time we get a drop of moisture there are dirt streaks all down the back windows. I am getting sick of washing them constantly but hate the shade covers.

Any ideas?

i just keep a microfiber cloth and a bottle of purified water in my truck, then i can do touch-ups and dusting if i get some bird poo or rain streaks

clean the window really good with stoner invisible glass andnewspaper, the rain-x the hell out of it. then all you'll have to do for a while is wipe it off just a little bit.

I love Rain-X.
I went a year without using windshield wipers b/c my GM had a broken relay or chip or something. Anyway, survived b/c of Rain-x. Safe? No. Smart? No.. Did it work? Damn straight.

well hell yeah....rain-x is awesome!!! try this........clean the w/s real good, then use some regular ol' turtle wax, buff that out with a microfiber cloth, then go over that with rain-x or vice versa and watch how the water flys off the windshield. even ice and snow crap wont stick to it.

well "a old timer's trick"

bull duram tobacco in a pouch use to cost about 20 cents and i always kept a bag in my glove box

at a drive in movie just wipe down the windshield and no water spots when it rained would form a sheet.

when i was younger the family had a model A and it had vacuume windshield wipers and were based on engine intake manifold vacuum . so at best it kinda worked, but you could use the old roll your own bull duram and be able to drive in a bind to get home ;-D
so with vacuums wipers if you gave it some gas the windshield wiper would just stop untill you let off the gas then they would go fast .

it had a nice 6 volt generator and battery for the lights,
and we did convert it to hydraulic brakes as original was mechanical ( yep look that up heheh)
my father took several years of fords to make it juice brakes and didn't have to buy any parts
but that was also in the day where you went to a junk yard for parts and stripped off what you needed and payed as you left!
and yep i could start it by hand and it had 3 speed non syncro so when you drove it you learned how to double clutch
might have to ask a older person to explain hahahahah

and that rig started out as a model B, but when we finished up we had a 31 vic body on it (ask a hot rodder to explain) ;-D

before i could drive i had to learn how to be a "shade tree mechanic"

and anyone that has ever driven a A bone knows the sound it makes
"pretty little lady"

You wouldn't be. Double clutching is for manual transmissions.

Long story short. Before transmissions were synchronized you would have to clutch to take the car out of gear, let the rpm drop, clutch again, and shift into the next gear, and then release clutch and continue driving. Easy on up-shifts, more complex on downshifts.

More detailed definition from wikipedia, followed by the definition of unsynchronized manual transmission

Whoa! That's cool. Never heard of that. Is Bull Durham chewin' or smokin' tobacco? Chewin' tobacco is also good on bee stings.

I was but a mere pup when the last drive in closed in my area. I remember going to see King Kong (the 70's remake) in the original Ford supercab with my folks.

Is there a name for no-clutching? I remember back in the day I was a gopher for a shop that serviced heavy construction machinery. Drove a manual late 80's Ranger all over town. I developed a feel for the right rpms when I could shift gears without using the clutch at all. It was a sort of two-step process. Pull it out of gear, then when the rpms were right, put it into gear. Definitely easier going up than down. And I grinded a lot of gears before I developed the proper 'touch'.

Thanks for clearing that up. Although for the record i'm very familiar with manual transmissions. I drove manuals for 9 years before i got the Taco, this is my first automatic.

My dad had a 79 F100 that i use to drive in high school. I could do the same thing with it, in and out of gears with no problem without the clutch.

I know you can drive a manual. I meant no offense, I was just being a "sh!t disturber," and being a wise ass in regards to our transmission debate from last week.
