URD Cold Air Intake

I am thinking of getting the URD True Cold Air Intake for my 09 Taco. Has anyone had any experience with the CAI? Also, has anyone heard or seen the CAI get water logged because of its behind the grill positioning?

I wouldn't recommend it because of where you live. URD is in California and we don't get a lot if any rain here at all. The URD intake is basically designed for use here even with the rain shield. Go with the TRD or Volant if you really want an intake.

 

ive driven with my urd through hard rain, snow, and some crossings. no issues here. but if your doing DEEP water crossings then this intake is not for you. performance wise urd tcai kicks all others

 

No offroading for me... just driving on roads. So I guess there shouldn't be a problem?

 

no problem at all. and if its consistently raining just get a filter cover when u order the intake so you wont be stressing if its pouring.

 

Yeah but you're in California. Our "hard" rain and snow doesn't compare to East coast, Midwest. It only takes a little water to screw things up!

 

i know plenty of others that are in florida where its always raining and they have had ZERO problems. im sure if you WOT in the pouring rain it might hicup, but why are you gonna go 100+ in the rain in the first place?

also the founder of URD is from south carolina and hes had zero problems also

 

Whatever makes him happy. It's his $$$. I like URD myself but I don't like metal intake pipes. But really, CAI don't do much unless you're tuned. Get the MAF calibrator also if you get a CAI.

 

I do see on their site that they have water resistant covers. Shouldn't be a problem.

 

Question, what is a MAF Calibrator?

 

it will let you configure your Air/Fuel ratio so your not too rich or too lean

 

Calibrates the MAF.

It's a fine tuning to take advantage of your CAI. Otherwise, it can run rich or lean (mostly rich) and just waste your gas and bring down your mpg.

 

it's a permanent mod though because you will have to cut your maf wires to extend them and then cut a hole in the metal next to the radiator to fit the intake tube through. You won't realize its true potential without the maf cali so you probably need to buy that also. If you are afraid of water get the hydroshield plus the splash guard for added protection. trd may be better because its easier to install and you don't have to change anything.

 

no its not. just put the old one back on. its no big deal. Now if you had to cut the MAF wires short, that would be another story.

 

Sorry, meant permanent in the sense that you can't put that piece of metal back in. I don't have the intake anymore but still have the hole there. I didn't wan't to cut and solder the wires again so I just coiled the wires and zip tied it.
