    Hey,

    Nice forum!

Im from Australia and have got a few questions for you guys with the 4L V6 motor.

I have just purchased Australias version of the tacoma (hilux) and its the TRD Supercharged model. V6 4 Litre motor, exact same as what are in the Tacoma's.

I am changing my exhaust system as the stocker is not good at all.

I have purchased some Pacemaker headers (or extractors) these are Australian made and possibly the best ones available here. Now, im wondering, are Magnaflow Catalytic converters good? also, should I go 2.5" or 3" system?? And lastly, what mufflers are you guys all running.

Thankyou for your help, much appreciated. Here are some pics of my car.

Wow thats sweet! I wonder why toyota america wont put something like that together (Super charged with a manual stick for 4WD) looks like you got leather in there too!! I hope Toyota makes the right move one day and figures out they should have a model like that for us here in the states. sorry to rant thats a killer truck.

I have the TRD exhaust, and like it alot. perfect sound and tuned for the truck.

    Welcome To TW

    Thanks :)

How do you engage your 4wd? Is it a switch or something?

Unfortunately we cant get the TRD exhaust in Australia, is it 2.5" or 3"? Your truck supercharged?

yes we have a wimpy little turn knob on the dash that engages the 4WD. Didnt know you couldnt get the TRD system there. I'm pretty sure its 2.5". to address your question a little further, I would stay with the 2.5" piping, the engine needs some amount of back pressure to run correctly. Magnaflow makes a great product the cats are free flowing and the mufflers sound great, it will really bring that SC/TRD to life.

No worries, thats what I had in mind. Single system or twin system? What would be the go?

Yeah, Australia had a very limited run on TRD hilux's (under 700) I think. They no longer make them, myn was one of the very last 09's to come out of the factory in Melbourne, Australia

are you going to off road the truck? if yes I would absolutely stay with single and just dump it behind the axle instead or running it all the way out back. If it is mainly for looks you can really go single or double and have the pipes custom bent for both sides of the dual exhaust. If you go the dual route go with a muffler that has single in/dual out. personally I would not do the dual, the is a reason most all big exhaust companies dont offer a dual system for the 4.0L

Hilux's are sick! I saw a bunch of them when i was in the Philippines back in Feb. Is yours diesel? A lot of the ones i saw were all diesel. Sucks that they won't release in the states! Well i run a Flowmaster 40 Series on my 05. It sounds good i like it. Here's a vid sorry if the sound and quality sucks, but i was using a 4.1 mgpx camera.

That vid sounds pretty good. Myn is the V6 Gas version, most here are 3litre 4 cylnder Turbo charged, but I chose to go V6 Gas instead.

Im not in it for the looks, want performance, so the go is 2.5" single system. Just run along the same route that the stock is in?

No worries, what did you guys find happened to your gas milage when you switched over to the less restrictive systems?

Also, trying to work out what diameter cats I will need. My headers are 2.5", and I will be doing 2.5" through out the whole system, does this mean I need 2.5"/2.5" magnaflow cats or do I need to go 3" cats? Sorry, no idea about exhaust systems.

Also, which model magnaflow cat is the best performer.

    Thanks

That's a sweet truck, so I hate to tell you - your steering wheel's on the wrong side. I bet you could take it back and get another one if it's still under warranty.

I would suggest custom piping with Magnaflow components. Honestly, I get comments all the time about how great mine sounds (Magaflow muffler only).
