    What's the point?

Not to get anyone's dander up, but it's a 2.7L auto. That gave it a payload capacity or a little over 1300lbs in stock form. Now I have to imagine that the stretched frame, and massive stake body weigh considerably more than the stock composite bed.

So what we have is a great truck for carrying a bunch of rolls of insulation.

27MPG highway???? Yeah, right. not with two more tires worth of rolling resistance, and a bunch more air resistance.

Is it neat to see, and would it be cool to say you did it? Sure. But the guy is blatantly lying in his add, and I am still left scratching my head and wondering why did he do it?

All i did was look at the pictures and it looks nice. Particularly the nicely finished wood bed.

It does look good. But why do all that work and then sell it with 800 miles on it. Good luck trying to use any of the warranty. Something smells awfully fishy.

That's the beauty of it all. To any of us, it's just a picture. Don't have to smell it, drive it, pay for it, etc...... Just a conversation piece.

I think that the abundance of these is regional.

Cause here in SoCal, I see quite a few of these. They have dual wheels and a stake bed.

Mostly they are gardner vehicles. They carry the mower, string trimmer, saws, pole cutters, bags of clippings, tree branches, ladders, hedge trimmers, etc. They're perfect for what they do. Larger surface area in the deck for more item that aren't necessariy heavier. They just need a bigger trunk and good fuel economy. Hey, gardening is a competitive business, w/o much skills, everyone can do it and cutting cost is #1.

Plus, they have the advantage that they are 4 cyl. They don't use up a lot of gas.

Even today the news was talking about taking a hit in the pocketbook due to even higher increase in fuel.

It may go down temporarily, but it's going to go up.

Anyway, they're fairly common here from what I've seen here in Southern California.

I see the point to it. Large items with a low density. Gardeners is a prime example or oyster farmers...this truck reminds me of that James Bond movie set in Louisiana. During the boat chase scene, there was some racist red neck bumpkin cop that was driving around in his car. He got stuck behind an oyster farmer that was going about 15 mph on the highway. This Tacoma is a modern day version of that.

Drop a D4D into it and then it will be a cool truck!
