i wanted it to be accessable, but i also wanted it to be out of danger. i put in in what i thoguth was the least likely place to catch fire, that way i i don't have to endanger myself as much getting near the fire to get it. but hopefully i'll never need it.

I never would have thought about carrying a fire extinguisher before seeing this tread. I was going to get an ABC so I would be prepared for any fire but then I thought what if I have to use it on my own truck? I wouldn't want the extinguisher to do more harm then good so I went with the BC behind the backseat of my double cab.

The only problem is that the mount holding it doesn't stabilize the bottom of the extinguisher so it likes to knock around whenever I make a turn. I just put a neck pillow back there to keep it from banging around and for occasional nap in the truck.

Even though the pillow is staying in the truck anyway, if anyone has an idea to keep the extinguisher in place let me know.

I'm low on pictures, but I have a good spot. I have a small one from Fred Meyer (sorry, I don't know the brand offhand) the fits neatly along the left side of my DC back seat, hanging out next to the seat belt. (just to the right of where that guy keeps his in the photo above me)

I drive pretty hard, and rarely on anything but a mountain road and it hasn't gone anywhere.

Thanks TcBob and TW members!! I have only been here a short time but have gotten so much quality info and have had a lot of fun modding my truck!! If you haven't already, throw a fire extinguisher in your truck. It may save your A$$ someday!!

I think code says they need to be "serviced" yearly in a commercial setting. Residential extinguishers I believe are good for 10 years. The retail ones have the gauge to check their integrity. I would rather have something that should work than nothing at all.

I agree this is a great idea, but what if it blows up if you get in a crash or something?

If the fire extinguisher receives an impact hard enough to blow up, then you probably have bigger problems already ...............

Actually it probably could help. I've used it in an oven before where some cookie dough fell over the side of a pan and caught fire. It's a dry non-flammable powder, just like what's in those fire extinguishers.

X2 I have been looking for a mounting location inside the cab that is inconspicuous.

LMAO!!! Very true! I would be more concerned with it becoming a projectile than exploding, so strap it down good! If you notice there are a few of us that have them outside of the cab. And if not, refer to above^^^^

I agree that a big red or white "can" is ugly, but the more conspicuous u make it, the easier it is to grab in the event....

Move it to the right, on the outside of the bin, between the cubbie and the door frame. Mine is that size and fits perfectly there.

Wow I forgot all about this thread.

I already tried where you mentioned and mine still rattled around in there. I realized that little plastic mount can (for a mag lite i think) can pop out and be moved over so I just moved it up against the extinguisher and it holds it in place.
