06 Tacoma fuel filter

i off road quite a bit and have had my fuel cap and spout get wrecked. the cap will no longer stay tight and now i got enough dust in the tank that the screen on the pump is plugged.(it is the only fuel filter on the whole damn truck)

toyota says that you have to buy a whole new fuel pump to get the screen and that it is not an individual part. can anyone help? is there an aftermarket deal a guy can find?
the pump is 800 dollars!!!

 

the filter is removable, held on by a bolt i believe was able to take it off and clean it even

and so far noone even has a part number for a pump

 

maybe but it is not a sock like some of the other screens i have seen. it looks more like a power saw air filter. a screen glued to a housing. i would have to add a fuel filter in line if i make it from anything else just to be safe. this thing should have one anyways.

How are you not getting a CEL with a loose gas cap??

i was i replaced the cap with a locking cap and replaced the filler tube and the new tube is just as bad. i know this must be a problem but toyota is not releasing a tsb on it but the new trucks come with proper screw type gas caps. my locking one can be taken off without unlocking it or even wiggling it.

don;t get me wrong i love my truck but toyota is no better then ford for making stuff to break down and cost a fortune to fix. my next truck i am building from scratch and i bet it beats the pants off anything on the market for reliability, performance, and price

ok so i did a little research to prove the stealership wrong.
all of this is direct from shoptrd.com
i would paste a picture of all the system components which you can order separate but i'm having trouble with that.

there are 2 pieces to the filler hose
- "filler hose" the half that goes to the tank
- "filler pipe" the half that goes to the fuel opening

There is a fuel filter which is shaped like a canister, then there is a separate "filter" that looks like a cap thingy with a small tube coming down but you can't just order that piece.

that is correct can't order the filter by itself real stupid.
i completed my order with URD and am real excited to put it in and be back to full status

 

Can you do a write up if you do the work yourself? I will probably end up doing one of these eventually as well.

 

i sure can hope to have it up by next week. the downfall of the whole thing is that it is easier to do it by pulling the box of the truck off then dropping the tank. i will post both
