Wind Noise 2008 Tacoma Access Cab

I have been back to the dealer twice in the first year regarding significant wind noise originating from the access doors. The leak appears to me to be located near the upper rear corner nearest the bed on both sides. It is bad enough that on a windy day, with the truck parked, the wind whistles. Thus far the dealer has lubricated the weather strip and adjusted the doors. There has been no improvement. If you had a similar issue, how was it corrected. As you know, the weatherstrip is pegged every few inches on the door so there is plenty of room for air leakage. Thanks.

 

I have heard of noise from the windshield but not on the access cab doors. I am assuming you bought this new?

I bought the Tacoma new and this is the only problem that I have. This is my third Toyota truck and all have been great trucks with few if any problems. We also have a 2006 Avalon sedan.

The service department even suggested foam backed tape under the weatherstripping. I hope he was kidding. The way the weatherstripping is attached apparently allows air flow under around the weatherstripping as it is not continuously attached to the door as with past trucks. I asked about thicker weatherstripping but was told that the part is the same.

Service has been concerned but thus far seems stumped.

 

I have the wind noise also. Very annoying when its windy.

 

I had this problem and Toyota adjusted all my doors and put all new weather stripping on my truck.............problem solved

 

Now I know why I always liked Pebbles!

Thanks for the feedback. I am wondering why they have not thought about the original weatherstripping. There are only so many options to correct this aren't there? What other alternatives would they have? Is there some way to check for air leakage when the truck is in the shop? It may be a dumb question, but is there a way to pressurize the cab and smoke test? I would like to make one more final trip and get this resolved.

Place a dollar bill on the location of the weatherstrip where you think the wind noise is coming from, and then close the door. Pull on the dollar bill; there should be resistance to your pull. If there is no resistance you have found your air leak. The dollar should not rip, however. Too much resistance and the door will not close correctly.
