Auto here...and bone stock.
I've been getting 18-19mpg consistantly pretty much. The weird thing is, in the winter when its in the 30's (aside from the shitty winter gas), I've been seeing 15-16mpg. In the summers when its in the 80's , I've been seeing 19-20mph. Weird....

Thats part of it....Another thing that helps achieve poor mpg is the ambient air temp. Colder air, is denser, thus the ECU adds a bit more fuel to keep the AFR correct.

SO in traffic approaching stops, or gentle downgrades where engine break not needed, stay in tall gear, no downshift or N. -Unloaded you can skip shifts. -Over 65 mph mileage starts sliding, over 70 really drops. Once you really get the feel for the truck and it has more time to break in, you should easily be able to beat the low 14/19 mpg rating on the 4x4 6spd EPA sticker. Mine's approaching 5yrs old now, mostly rural driving, I avg 20-20.5 all summer. |

I have 22000 miles on my 09 4x4 dbl cab with the 6spd. I bought the truck in November. I drive alot of highway and off road. The worse I got was 11mpg driving mostly off road and in 4wd. The best was a trip to beaumont; I got 18.4 mpg. I seldom use the clutch and usually drive 70-80mph on the highway. My average tank yields 16.8 mpg.

-Old 'gas saving' was put in Neutral, but fuel still going to engine. -What alot of people do downshift, maybe once, some a couple times, then gas it anyway to creep up to the stop. -But for best mpg, stay in your gear, foot off, truck slows, little brake, and clutch in just before stop. Bascially your not using gas till you take off again. AS far as Unloaded 'skip shifts'. Basically you dont always have to hit each gear accelerating. This truck has plenty of grunt, so shift as the terrain & load dictates. For example, pulling onto a road heading downhill in 2nd, I'll go 2nd-4th-6th. If your towing up it you'll want to use all the gears. |

I'm getting 17-18 mpg if towing my boat and 18-20 on long trips no towing. I use 87 octane. Keeping her under 2000 rpm is the secret.

Ok, we all know the automatics get better gas mileage. I have a 2009 DC V6 4x4 in manual currently at 2,200 miles and I get about 18+ mpg mix driving and the most I've ever gotten on a tank is 332 miles at less than 18 gallons. All city driving has gotten anywhere from 15.5 to almost 17mpg. I assume it will get better in time but like others have said, the key to most mpg is light use of the accelerator with shifts at about or a little over 2K rpms for the first 3 gears and 1.5K for the last three or skip shift.

Mine is an automatic...I average around town with some hwy 12-14 mpg. Hwy alone it will be between 16-18 mpg. I've got a couple mods that rob power(tires, Budbuilt skids) then I have some that give back some lost power(Afe Intake, Flowmaster 40, Doug Thorley Shorties).

Man, I must drive like an old lady, I get 18.2-19.5 on almost every tank and I've got 285's and mud terrains?? Only time below 18 is towing or wheeling. But I do about 70% highway.

My MPG's got better with mileage. I'm at approx 8k currently getting 18-19mpg combined driving of city/country roads using the A/C. Stock, auto DC/SB. Took about 5-6k for the MPG's to come up for me.

Yeah normal driving I get good mileage. I skip 5th most of the time and go to 6th gear and keep my RPM's under 2k driving back and forth to work.
![]() This one was either the tank after or 2 tanks after the above photo when I went up HWY 24 driving like an A$$..

I can't believe you guys live with that kinda mileage. I was getting almost 21 mpg without my tires, and I drive like a leadfoot, you can ask my wife! haha
Even with my KM2's and lift, 285's.... I'm still getting over 17 mpg.

I would probably get better mileage if I had a longer commute. I work a couple miles from home, and I visit my family quite often 8 miles away in the next town. Not to mention the city I live in has increased a lot in the last 6 years and every 300-500 ft there seems to be a lighted intersection.
I have a lead foot too, not because I am in a hurry, I like the sound it makes

im interested in how you high mpg guys are calculating your MPG?
i don;t see how there can be that big of a difference for all you claiming to to higher than 18 on mixed driving. just to clarify: you're not topping the tank off and then driving down below the e on the gas meter are you? I find anything over 18 hard to beleive? I calculate my MPG by filling the tank untill the pump auto shut off clicks for the FIRST TIME. then set the trip, and wait till the gas meter is dead on E. and divid the trip set reading by 20 gallons. |

mkr- you are wrong. you fill your truck until the pump shuts off. drive the vehicle say 3/4 tank (or however much/little you want). Fill it up until the pump shuts off. NOW you calculate the miles you drove by the amount of gas you just put back in. This is the correct way to measure MPG's. I know a lot of people do screwy things, but this method is the correct way.
